The price you pay for getting things really cheap by shopping at places like Walmart, Sams, and Costco. What do all of these stores have in common (no doubt due to the fact that they are cheap)? On any give day you can walk in there and see how terribly tainted the gene pool in this country has become.
What a stupid statement.

Are you referring to Wal-Mart's employees or their customers? Where do you shop Pug? Does Wal-Mart, Sam's, or Costco not carry the "right" wings for you?

Geez. Do people like the feeling of their panties being wadded up? Just show the receipt and get on with your life. What's the BFD?

ROFLOL I thought that might get you going!

I shop at Wal-Mart too for the very same reasons you listed. But I don't agree with your valuation of their employees as Wal-Mart is able to offer those low prices in part due to the fact they don't pay their employees very well.

No doubt you'd make one hell of a fine greeter there Pugsy!

i have always showed my receipt, with the exception of one time at circuit city. i purchased the big video game chair for my son, and some other items that were bagged. it took a bit to get loaded up and i was struggling to fit my arms around the thing. then the guy at the door tried to stop me. I said, " no thanks, it took me long enough to pack this stuff up, if you want to follow me to the car then fine." then i walked out, and he didnt bother to follow me.

if there was a line, i probably would walk right through it. there are lines to get a saleperson to answer your question and lines to pay. i'm not standing in a line to have my receipt checked.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart.....not so much for the reasons Whiteowl or Pug do, but for how they treat their employees and suppliers. But that is a whole 'nuther story.....
As far as them checking receipts, I highly doubt if they have a set policy on this. It is probably up to the interpretation of the greeter or management as to when and if it is done. As to what TN says about theft goes, you'd be surprised as to how much walks out the door due to shoplifting. Employee theft is a problem, but it doesn't contribute more to shrinkage than shoplifting does. In fact, most of the loss in a typical store is due to incorrect receiving/shipping practices, improper pricing procedures, shabby return procedures, mistakes made while marking down merchandise, and cashier error.
Anyhow, stopping the only customer in the store after seeing them go through the checkout is not very smart.....policy or not.

I agree about overall loss, but theft is different than incompetence.

I am lucky. I live in a somewhat large city, so Wal-Mart can not really take the place over. The Wal-Marts are not close to me, to get to one I would have to pass 50 places that sell the same crap. Yea I might have to stop at more than one store, but that is not a big deal. The money I "save" at Wal-Mart might pay for the extra gas I use up driving to one and fighting the horrible traffic in the process (the distance is really not too far, but when you factor in the terrible suburban traffic 10 or 15 miles one way becomes an hour long epic adventure filled with pirates, cannon, explosions, and Mecha-Godzilla.

I can say with pride that it has been well over 10 years since the last time I bought anything from a Wal-Mart. Last time I was tempted I was in Live Oak FL and wanted some produce. I drove almost to GA and got better fresher produce from a road side stand - and for cheaper

Or like the time I went to one in Lakeland FL to get wine glasses. All they had was garbage. Why spend money for some cheap garbage that is just going to break after a few uses when I can spend a little more and get something that will last until I drop it and it breaks? At least then the item breaks because I dropped it, not because it just breaks on its own for no good reason.

I have family that live in small towns. I have seen the mega stores come in and dry up all the small shops. The Wal-Mart becomes the only store in town. So I make all efforts possible to not shop there. Ever.

Just for clarification, stopping a customer who is all alone in the store to check a receipt is a bit much, but I'm sure the person was just doing their job as it was explained to them.

Why all the fuss? Maybe this person just came on duty of came off a break, but who cares folks?

Do you really think Wal-Mart is going to change their policies or miss you as a customer simply because you want to start a scene over something like this?

I agree that Wal-Mart and others will run all the specialty shops and a lot of smaller grocery chains out of business. When that happens, their prices will go up, but they won't pay their employees any better than they do now.

Welcome to America folks. It's called free enterprise. Complaining about having to show a receipt sure isn't going to solve the problem if this about more than just your inconvenience. Should your problem be with big companies running little companies out of business, stay they heck out of the big stores. Problem solved.

Ive been checked at Wal-Mart, but it was after I checked out at the Sporting goods register. Never after one of the regular registers. And mine was with a fishing rod and 12 v. battery. Probably only been checked 3 or 4 times over the years and I shop there alot. No big deal to me, just do it and go on. IMO the greeters are old enough to have earned my respect and Im not going to give them a hard time over something that trivial...just doing the job that they were told to do. I have on numerous times just walked up and offered the receipt and on each occasion, I was told that was okay, to have a nice day.

At the costco here they do the receipt checking thing, the line on weekends to get out of the store can be 25-35 people long, I never wait for this foolishness, just walk around the checker and out the door. Only once did the person checking receipts try to stop me, all I said was if you think that I am stealing something call the cops or get out of my way.

Walmart's job is not to make employees happy(or any other big corporation....a common liberal myth), Walmart's job is to make a profit by selling alot of stuff which they do by selling cheaper than everyone else. If the employees and suppliers don't like the way they are treated, they can go elsewhere.

Shoplifters and scam artists are becoming more sophisticated every day. The 90 year old alzheimer patient at the front door is just a show piece. I swear the old bird at my Sams club can even read the print on the receipt.

I heard somewhere in 2004 that our local walmart is losing a cool million a year in merchandise walking out the door, if i owned a buisiness and that much was walking out the door every little punk wearing baggy pants gets frisked before leaving, i consider them quite liberal in their anti-shoplifting techniques.

With the money i saved at Wallmart the last few years i bought a bigger boat!!!! I'm not to proud to go to Wallmart, Im like my money in my pocket. Whats the bid deal about showing them a receipt. Do you feel like a big man now giving a Wallmart greeter and manager a hard time.
Did you ever have a buisness with alot of employees?? ITs just a way of trying to keep everyone honest, so they can keep the prices down
so next year i can buy a bigger boat...GROW UP

I let em play their game at the “exit” door, yep it’s an inconvenience but lotsa things in life are.

I do appreciate someone with bigger balls than mine who fights for my rights not to be detained for a stupid exit door search.

An exit door search will never escalate into more than an inconvenience.........However.......

It is some consolation, by “just patting my hip” that if push comes to shove and my life is threatened my 32 cal Kel-Tec is on my hip to, in the final respect, protect me and mine. Yes I (and wife) have Tennessee concealed gun carry permits. Shoot someone?, yep, if a bad guy ever points a gun (or any other lethal weapon) at us.

If more good law abiding citizens were licensed to carry a gun, more bad guys would be less likely to commit personnel crimes against citizens.

One of my favorite laws is “use a gun in the commission of a crime, go to jail”.

So are you saying you carry your gun into Wal-Mart and pat your hip when they ask to see your receipt?
