I wouldn't waste my time watching these pathetic excuses for entertainment (sopranos, lost, etc. etc.). Ever notice that they all have something in common.....a weak plot that can not and will not end, ever. Why should the writers and producers put forth the effort to actually finish the show when they don't have to....people are perfectly willing to watch "half" a show. That way they leave it open for themselves to make millions in the future because people will tune right back in when the movie comes out or the series starts up again 4 years later. I stopped watching TV years ago...best thing I ever did.

So what happened?...I'm over in Turkey and can't find HBO anywhere.
SPOILERS!!

Phil Leotardo got whacked, after a tip from Tony's FBI Terrorism link. That was about it. The end had the family at a diner somewhere and it was a tense scene with different people entering the restaurant and you felt like something was going to happen. The finally Meadow runs across the street to the diner. You hear the door open, Tony looks up, and then -- black.

Nothing....roll credits.

I thought it was a great episode...lots of symbolism and tension. But I really would've preferred an actual ending.

I agree, it was a great show and that was a unique way to end it. You could cut the tension with a knife in our den between the Admiral and I. In fact both kind of "jumped" when the screen went black.

Great show and writing by David Chase, I was stumped but could not think of another way to end such a series and yes it did leave it open for another season, movies or what ever but I think it is best left alone.

I am sure not everyone will agree but I have watched this show from day one and it has become my all time favorite tv show, now I can cancel HBO

I just knew that T was going to get whacked right in front of his family when Meadow walked in and the writers did a great job of leading you into thinking that as well

Re: Sopranos

Sucked-the only thing good about it was Philly getting whacked. Profound amiguity, my a$$. More like shameless "hooking" of an audience for the movie. Who wants to bet that the opening scene of the Sopranos movie is the pick-up from teh fade to black of the final episode???

RE: Sopranos

I thought it was great too...who says everything has to be wrapped up with a neat bow? life is ambiguous. But in addition to Phil getting whacked there was one other very important event from the last show, the meeting between Tony, Pauly, Carmine and Phil's leutenants where Tony basically usurped Phil's power. He outmaneuvered him. Pretty smart.

Great series.

tprice 06-11-2007 09:27 AM

RE: Sopranos

I did think the scene with Phil's head stopping the SUV from rolling into traffic with the kids was kind of humorous and the reaction of those watching it also.

I also took that the FBI had a pool going on this one also from the reaction to Phil getting whacked

I only watched a portion of a few episodes during the life of the series and thought they all sucked. I never understood the fascination in watching a bunch guinea bastards going around killing, screwing and kissing other whops and then eating brats 24/7. On a positive note at least I learned some mafia slang.

I used to watch that show all the time and thought it was great even though I wondered why. Who would have ever though that watching this type of violence would be entertaining? Sort of like "Six Feet Under". You watch stuff like this and actually laugh at some of it. Maybe we're all just a little sick in the head! I really didn't watch many episodes this final season.

When the screen went black, I thought the dog had stepped on the remote when he jumped up on the couch! DAMM DOG!!! I was fumbling for the remote when the credits came onto the screen! "Sorry Dozer".

Did anybody recognize the hit men who popped Phil as being Tony's guys? I sort of had the feeling the FBI guy had set this thing up to take over Tony's action somehow as Tony had already made nice. Too bad Meadow couldn't have gotten her car parked a little quicker as then maybe we would know if the guys who showed up at the restaurant were just there to eat. ;?

Right, because the producers know that most people (maybe not you, but most) would watch again no matter how bad they made the ending. Why should they put forth the effort and money to make something of quality when they don't have to? I'll stick with my plan.....just stop watching everything.

You are absolutely right. I was ready to bail when the production was held up for 18 months or something like that a few years ago, but I was hooked. What kept me going was that as a locally (NJ) produced show, it's kind of cool to see familiar places. And I did like the show, just the final episode sucked.

RE: Sopranos

If you really payed attention when they were at dinner you could of drawn your own conclusion as to what happen to Tony thats why David Chase did what he did the true die hard Sopranos fan would of know . The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.

So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?). Absolutely incredible!!!! There were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends

Okay, makes sense if you are correct on the characters... They all got more camera time than they would if insignificant characters otherwise.

since you posted it as it was your own, though, please provide a link or source for "nikki leotardo"...a quck google search reveals that the actor who played the guy at the bar is a pizzeria owner in NJ

a better explanation is far simpler; ie: which came out of the opened door—the lady, or the tiger?

Ok well this is my own can you understand it now??

ok listen guys...u gotta watch the end of the episode again and watch
closely...here is what you'll c...when tony walks into the diner he looks at
himself sitting down at the table...u can be sure of this b/c he is
wearing
different clothes when he sits down...i dont no wtf that means...in
previous

seasons it had been told to us that tony's dad died just as his daughter

(janus) walked in...if u watch closely u will see janus walk in shortly
after

tony sits down...this is used to signify the possibility of that
happening
again...then u will c the sports store owner who tony destroyed walk in
wearing a brown kinda hunting jacket...he is the guy that a couple
seasons
ago got into gambling trouble with tony and tony took over his
store...HE IS

THE 1 WHO WACKS TONY...he comes in and sits down hunched over...hiding
his
eyes as not wanting to be noticed...and alas..."u probly dont even here
it
when it happens rite?" (this is bobby talking to tony in the 1st episode
of
the season...tony had this flashback as he was laying down in the last
episode...there would be no reason to have had that in unless it had
some
huge significance)...and finally...tonys daughter walking in to c her
dad
get shot just as janus did so many years ago...u hear the bell of her
walking in and then blackness...nuthing...it signifies the neverending
cycle

of the soprano family...aj will become tony...meadow will become
janus...carmela will become livia (tonys mom)...and cycle of violence
goes
on and on and on....absolutlely amazing...i HATED the ending at
first...but
when i wached it again...and understood it...it is really the most
amazing
ending possible for the show...we really would not have been satisfied
with
the boring u c tony get shot ending...this was
priceless...remember..this
was not an action show...it was a drama about a FAMILY....

Re: Sopranos

Ok, I can understand when someone explains it all out but seriously, they expect too much or think too highly of themselves or their fans. They stretch this out so long and tediously this season with such disconnected superflous BS and we're supposed to get all giddy at an attempt at a Pulp Fiction restaraunt scene? I know, I'm an ADD ridden monkey but I shouldn't have to work so freakin' hard to be entertained. Keeerap, it's a tv show. You'd have to have had to watch the previous shows on DVD five times over to have packed all that junk into your noggin'.

I like great story tellers. I like a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Any ending. Suprise endings that get you ( The Sixth Sense for example )

How about this: I cancel HBO and imagine their programming. Now that's real genius! I have HBO HD and nine tenths of their HD schedule is taken up with bad programming and now they do this lame finale.

Heck, at least they could've given us some flashback scenes to Meadow working her way through college at the Bada Bing!!!

Don't knock HBO -- that's the only group producing most things worth watching on TV. They could put a guy on a black screen reading the phone book and I'd at least give it a shot.

You may not agree or like all these but they were great in their own way:

Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Deadwood
Carnival
The Wire
Oz
(What am I missing)

Big Love is starting to get interesting. And John From Cinncinati looks like it is going to be very promising.

I like to think of it as we, the viewers, got whacked. You never see it coming, don't hear or feel anything. One second you're there, a part of some mundane situation and the next- blackness. It leaves things as is- just the viewer will no longer be a part of it....
....that is, of course, unless you are willing to pay for a movie ticket in a few years to be brought back to life.
