Default Hives?

Anyone ever get Hives? Friday I sudenly broke out with Hives all over my body. I figured no big deal they would go away in a day or so. Sat morning I was coaching soccer in the heat, this seemed to really aggravate it to the point where it was quite gross.

I went to the local medi merge, they gave me a shot of roids and a presciption of prednisone. I have been taking 2 benedryl tabs every six hours. for the past two days. It has only improved a little, I am miserable!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to do that a long time ago and figured it was stress related.

I'd break out in whelts which were all red an itched like the devil. It often was followed by a bad case of the shist!

Never did anything about it though, and haven't had them or the other associated problem in over 20 years.

Sorry for your pain. Been there, done that. Moist heat is the worst thing for hives. A cool bath will help keep the welts down and in turn will make the itching a bit more bearable. Over all there is not much that can bee done. Take your meds and Benedryl as per doctors recomendation, keep cool, relax as much as you can and don't cover up much when you go to sleep. The warmth of the covers will agrivate the hives and you will wake up itchy and red. Try to figure out the trigger for the hives. For some it is stress, allergic reaction to a food or drug, and maybe for no reason at all. I had lots of seafood and Omniflex antibiotic when I had a bad outbreak. Not sure what the trigger was but I stay away from both for now on. It took me over a week before I could return to work. Google hives and you will find allot of info on it. Good luck.

I used to get hives from eating tomatoes - allergic reaction......but go figure, not tomato paste or ketchup. Yah most definitely do not work up a sweat, that's like gasoline to fire!.

From my experience an out break of hives from a food is pretty immediate....what did you eat just prior? Just so you know, it doesn't have to be the food you ate, it could just as easily be one of the ingredient in the food you ate. Did you eat somewhere new or try a different food to what you'd normally eat?

So when you were at the clinic, did they do a BP test? If so, what'd they say about the numbers?

Thanks for the replies- I went to my actual doctor today, he said they look like they are going away. Definitely not as bad a Saturday. What a pain in the a$$.

My BP was 128 / 76. I guess I will just have to wait it out.

Hives and I are old acquaintances. I have had them as allergic reactions and as reactions to stress. I have actually had stress hives lately. IMMEDIATE HELP:BENADRYL LOTION ORSPRAY. My doc put me on Zyrtec daily, Ranitidine (apparently a mild antihistamine also) 2x per day, 2 Benadryl at night. But for immediate relief for itching the benadryl lotion or spray cannot be beat.

Good luck!

Oh, MAN!~~!~ SO SORRY!! I, too, have had them....

Everything as stated above, and STAY COOL!! Take cool baths with oatmeal sprinkled in....yes, it works. Or, if that just seems a little "out there" then use Aveeno bath soak.

Hang in there ~ this too shall pass.....only it probably won't seem to do so quickly enough.

FJ - Thanks - I feel like a big baby, but this SH** is for the birds and has really thrown me for a loop. Good thing I get to work from home, but next week is a big travel week for me. They are pretty much almost gone now, I am on Predisone and Claritin. My only concern is when I get of the pills will it come back???? Time will tell!!

Thanks

Oh man, I feel for you!

I had a horrible hives experience few years ago in San Diego. I was there for the Republican Convention and on the closing day I went out for a nice sushi dinner and shortly after it got on one of the overnight head boats for a fishing trip down into Mexican waters.

Had a few beers with my fellow fishermen and crawled into my bunk around midnight only to wake up at 1:30 with hives head to toe, it was miserable! Took a shower, didn't help, took some Benedryl, didn't help.

Ended up staying on deck in the breeze all night to help calm the effect. The hives kept itching ALL DAY LONG while we were fishing, I couldn't have been more miserable. Once the boat hit the dock I had about three hours to get to the airport for a redeye flight home. Just had time to pop into the emergency room (along with all the San Diego crack heads) and the doc gave me a shot of something, cortisone? that made me giddy as hell and also made the hives go away nearly instantly. Whatever that stuff was, I was laughing my head of for about half an hour, it was gooood stuff!

Never really knew what caused it, but I suspected it was something in the sushi that got me.

After typing and posting this I started itching, I must be having sympathy itches!

Man, that's pretty bad. Hear this one though. I get hives from drinking alcohol. Whenever I have ONE beer, i break out in hives and my face and body get covered in red blotches. I can't even sip rum or vodka or anything else.

Ditto the aveno. I was skeptical at first, but it really relieved the itching.

Don't give up so easily. You can do this....take small sips everyday to build up an immunity.

Worked for me!
