Default Father's Day Advice

With Father's Day coming up I have been asked what I would like. Other than BJ's, etc., I want to take my 14 year old daughter and 76 year old dad fishing. The problem is that I really don't want my wife and and especially not my mother to come along. This would be inshore fishing in eastern Central Florida. I really don't want to offend my mother, but she would be a total PITA. My wife would be fine with it and she could come along if she really wanted to.

When I was a teen, my dad used to take me fishing even though he was not really into it. At around 14 I bought a little boat with lawn mowing money and he used to drop me off at the ramp and with a friend and he'd go play tennis with the trailer attached and pick me up later.

So, the question is whether to risk offending my mother.

Why don't you do it on the Saturday and don't tie it formally to Father's Day. Simply ask you father if he wants to come fishing next Saturday (or the Sat after) and just take you daughter as well. Making it part of a "day" might make other's feel that they were excluded from a special event - separating it outwardly (but knowing it is your gift to yourself inwardly) should work.

Menzies - that is great advice. For whatever reason I was tieing it too closely to the "DAY" and not the "MEANING". Good stuff!

You could maybe start the day off with breakfast out with the whole family, depending on what time of day you would like to start your fishing? Then take your dad and daughter out fishing. Then go for dinner with the whole lot of them again. Then you "could possibly" take in a movie......you'll only have to really put up with your mother for the duration of the breakfast and dinner.

The high's down here are now 91-94. Fishing is an early morning game for me. I am going to start a new tradition - "Father's Day Weekend". Kind of has a ring to it

Good advice Menzies & Garett! You guys are on top of this one!!! You might also consider setting up something for the "gals" to do. A trip to a get their nails done, or a special brunch for them to do while you are out doing what you want to do???

It does have a nice ring to it, but remember the gong to it......Mother's Day Weekend.

Dead nuts on!!!

Let the Misses know in advance since she'll be OK with it anyway
and just TELL your Mother, and do it. That's how Dad and I pull
off our Keys vacations.

Just got off the phone with my dad and he is game for Saturday morning. This will be the first time he and I will have fished together in over 20 years. We see each other all the time, but fishing is, you know, kinda special. It will be cool to have my 14 year old along too if I can drag her butt out of bed!

Garrett, someone hijacked your ID and put in a risque, yet male-pleasing sig pic. Heads up.
