Default Spelling Bee Champions

I wondr what ever happens to these kids. Did anyone ever do a study? What do they do 30 years later - are they overachievers or freeks? My teacher wife says its sorta a freek skill and many of these "super" kids even have learning or other problems. I was sorta shocked when this latest kid was interviewed on the Today show by AnnCurry - she was so kind to him but really couldn't get much from him other than yawns . Can't find that but this one is even "worse"...

Mabe I am jst jellis....

I'm pretty sure they are riding around someone's neighborhood on a bicycle wearing a helmet.

Yeah, all kidding aside, some of these kids are the "rainman" type. On the autistic spectrum. They can be so engulfed with a certain subject, but to ask them to sit down and have a conversation with you can be almost impossible. I work in the special ed. dept. of an elementary school.

I won the spelling bee in 2nd grade, and look at me now. I'm as normal as the next guy. Just ask me.

I don't think you'll find many spelling champs here on THT.

Look at people from both sides of the spectrum. There are well adjusted, normal ones that can spell ok, then there are ones like chicken in a biskit.
