Default ebay unpaid item dispute....possible scam?

Has anyone gotten an email from ebay about an unpaid item in dispute. I find it interesting that I recieved this notification as I don't have or ever had an ebay account.....With all the crud that happens on ebay I'm guessing this is a scam too and not responding to it. They did send me the members name and the item # maybe I should check it out on the real ebay site.

It's called Phishing.

They will set up a false front to a site - like eBay or PayPal. It is the same log on screen as you normally see. So you enter your password and Id and they capture it to defraud you.

It obviously won't work if they send an eBay scam to someone who never used eBay but they send enough of them out that they will catch a good number of people.

It is very popular on banking sites. So be careful if you receive a fishy email from your bank asking you to log on to "fix" something.

What is really intersting about these phishing pages is that they actually bounce the username and pw you enter off of the Ebay site to verify the credentials you enter are legit. Then it gets recorded in a database on their site. Someone put a lot of time into that.

Try to enter a bogus name and pw into it--it won't work. (I usually try to give them a very memorable, and probably angering one to use

I've been ebaying for about 5 or 6 years now--never had a problem.

I've bought 2 cars on there and sold 3, most recently a Jeep I made a pretty fair profit from. I never would have made the money on I had if I didn't have the large audience that Ebay does.

If you have no ebay account then just delete the e-mail and call it the day. If you do have an ebay account go over to ebay's site, log on and then check your personal messages on their site, if the message show up there then you know there is a problem which you will need to straighten up will ebay....through ebay channels.

Has nothing to do with ebay. I have used ebay over 100 times without ANY problems. I have saved alot of money and sold stuff i consdiered useless. I like ebay other than the fact company makes a $hit load of money off of other peoples stuff
