Your not getting older, your getting better, (and older if the truth be told)

Sounds like you had a visit to Anywhere USA ER.... sad but true.

Don't stress out about THT Wiley, I've run a few websites with forums that were pretty big (albeit with a lot more help) and they aren't worth it.

As for the ER, its very disturbing, but what you explain seems tame compared to the ER in a big college town.

Wet-n-Wiley - 6/4/2007 6:59 PM

So, Sunday was a normal honey-do day with some simple chores and occasional checks on THT to see all was running well. When I finally took a break I started noticing my chest was a bit tight and I was short of breath. Next thing I know my heart is beating like a jack rabbit and my entire body has become numb. So, (after an act of congress) my wife convinced me to let her take me to the ER Ė Iím not one for hospitals!

As for Wiley? Well, I begin my LOTREL and other treatments tonight. Doctor said I should take a break from the PC for a long while. See... I told you I was stessed!

Take care all
Take it easy Wiley! Get one of your hundred thousand or so friends here at THT to take you fishing or cruising or something.

I will volunteer for cruising in the Canaveral area.

Stressed - eat lots of white turkey and drink plenty of red wine.....I know it's supposed to be white wine with turkey but hey red wine seams to work faster for some reason. Both the turkey and red wine will be a natural sedative for yah.

Well I've promised you a few beers in the past when we meet, well if you get up this way on your recuperating time off I'll be sure to honor that offer and I'll even get you out for a little Great Lake's action.

You take care of that health of yourís Wiley, itís easier to discard an old car then it is the body.

Dump the bilge section and tell all the political hacks on here to take their hatemongering elsewhere. Nothing but boats, fishing ,rods and reels, family and fish pics and SANDBAR........you will be off meds in no time. Hope you feel better soon.

trapit, Imthebeachgirl, bluffman2, pugnacious33, randall, The Classic, HotSpot, RI Builder, sac56fire... Thanks for the well wishes!

I'm pretty sure I need a total lifestyle change and it's not 100% the daily stress of just what was here on the Forum.
I actually like to thin I'm pretty tough when it comes to this stuff but with a history of several heart attacks in my family it freaked me out a bit.

You see all kinds in ER's - shame on the parents....

You may want to check out on of the Mayo Clinic's "executive wellness" programs. They check you out 9 ways to Sunday, if you know what I mean. Every crook and cranny

It's expensive, 'round $4k, and insurance won't cover it, but it's worth it for the piece of mind, or at worse an early diagnosis, which dramatically increases your survival chances.

Relax, and have a drink!
I have actually thought of something this in the past and might someday do this. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, hospitals are pretty scary places. Sad thing is, things like what you witnessed happen dozens of times each day across the country. Hate to see that happen to such young kids. Now - on to the lecture! Glad you ended up OK, but you'll need to pay attention to your BP from now on. Listen to what the docs have to say and i'm sure they'll tell you to cut down on salt, get more exercise, etc., etc. Tell your Admiral thanks from all of us at THT that she got you to listen to her.
Yeah... If I lived alone chances are I'd never go to a hospital or doctor for any reason.

Wife has a way of getting me to go!

Man that experience will surely open yer eyes. Just reading it makes me glad I got away from the drugs....not so much the alcohol as I do enjoy a few from time to time. It's a shame that parents let it get outta control and when their kids need them the most they just, "need to get some air".

As for you Wiley, take this as a sign and take a break. Yer health is more important than THT.

Get well soon!
Everything is fine if done in moderation....

..... including moderation (on my part).

PS. Beer is still in my diet!

Try to keep dem headrushes at bay as much as you can. As for the kids? The world would probably be amazed how much better our children would be with a daily kiss and a hug and a "I love you". It's sad, but those two kids probably never received any of the three.

Wiley time to spend some time on a boat rather than loking at computer screens about boats. You have an open invite any time the mood strikes. You look to be in too good shape for the BP nonsense. Do what the doc says and get it down. Mine was 122/73 ay the Dr. the other day. I have lost 100 lbs since November (not the you needed to lose weight) I feel great, if it weren't for my anke (that requires surgery) and I amj ust about off all my meds - the diabetes meds are gone and the BP pills are cut wayback. If I can do it, anyone can
Keep up the good work Steve! I think once the medication brings me down a bit and I drop some stress I should be able to get back on track. Funny, my BP has always been low and never a concern. This snuck up on me.

Thanks Garett.

I'm a pretty big Cab fan but need to look for something lighter, like some Pinos. Here in the heat it would be nice to have a chilled red, maybe like a chilled Zin? Not sure which blends of reds are best chilled (slightly).

Thanks for the inivte too!

Glad you have things under control Wiley. Sometimes these 'wake up' calls are what we really need. Bummer we can't just hit the old 'On Star' button and ask WTF?

I complained Friday to my doc that I quit smoking in Dec and still can't run 1/2 mile. I used to run like Forrest Gump.... He says lose 25 years and 50 lbs and you can again... Smartazzes.....

Stay well, I'll hook up with ya at the Square Grouper in the winter.

Sorry to hear that.

diet helps alot, lots grilled fish, no spicies, no salt no oils no butter. I know is hard to cut salt alltogether. grilled salmon is awesome.
Alot of cranberry juice, Orange, grapefruit juice an grape juice.

lot of fresh veggies.

cut soda if possible.

cut the salt and the sugar for a while and you will see improvements.
off course try to cut stress.

Wiley,

Back in Dec., I had to go to the doc for an "insurance physical" - I have not been in a hospital overnight ONCE since I was 13 (47 YEARS ago!). Also hadn't had a REAL "physical" in probably 30 YEARS!

Well, to start with, my BP was 220/110! Needless to say, I asked the nurse what was "normal"? When she said 120/80, I thought they were gonna' send me RIGHT to the ER!

Long story short, after taking some (2) perscribed meds (BP & a diuretic) and a few dietary adjustments, I had my BP back down to 127/78 by March (after visiting the doc every 2 weeks)! Now, I don't have to go back 'til October (on my BIRTHDAY, no less!)

My "bad" cholosterol was up a little (7 "points", I think?) also, but we'll be working on that come October!

BIGGEST thing the doc told me concerning the high BP was to cut down on the SALT - salt from canned foods (especially veggies), salt from "prepared frozen foods", salt from the salt shaker, etc..

I have been using next to NO "real" salt and found some "potassium-based" salt-substitue that Morton's Salt makes - NO sodium and 17% potassium - not bad, either. The "Salt-Free Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blend" is pretty decent, too.

I tried some Campbell's "40% less sodium" soup and THAT stuff was NASTY! Most ALL soups have about 40%+ sodium (per serving) - even the "dried" (add boiling water) ones! There are also a variety of "salt-free" canned veggies, but the FRESH veggies are really the best!

Even when the sodium content of a product LOOKS low, look at the "per serving" AMOUNT - often the "serving size" is VERY small!

Now - if I can just stop the dam SMOKING, I'll be back to my "fighting weght/condition"!

Hope you're feeling better and "reading up" on the hypertension and "no salt" stuff!

That was QUITE an experience you had to endure in the ER with the 2 girls - VERY sad about their Mom, too!

I know you didn't need THAT going on when you were alREADY scared as he$$ about yourSELF!

Take care and start living a "cleaner" life!

Regards,
