Default of all things to happen the night before a trip to the coast

I spend the evening last night tearing down & repacking the bearings in my trailer, as well and replacing the light connector. Pulled the boat out of the water this evening, tied everything down, and gave it a once over, and it looks good. Went up the road to the gas station & filled the boat & truck. When I got home, I starting loading things up, looked down & damn if the bearing protector on the starboard side was gone completely. I've got spare parts for just about everything, except that. The closest store doesn't open until 8 am, and that is 15 miles away, I had planned on leaving at 6 AM.

Someone tell me again why it is that boat trailers are such a PAIN IN THE A$$?

Well I'd pack the area with axle grease and duct tape a piece of plastic bag over it. Just use some thinners or acetone to clean the exposed hub so the tape will stick really good. This should allow you to at least take the trailer with you to the parts store in the morning.......so I take it you'll be buy two?

Have a safe trip Trey........take lots of pictures for us!

it turns out that wal-mart does indeed stock everything known to man, a 1 hour 15 min round trip later, we are back in action. Just to make it seem like a worthwhile trip, I got a case of beer while I was there.

In regards to your bad luck good luck, I have found out over the last ten years that the bearing protector or dust cap, needs to be replaced almost every time you take it off, must be the cheap China metal they use. After learning the hard way, I always have a spare of some type on hand.

Half of a beer can slid over the hub and a hose clamp works well in a pinch too. Old farm trick.

Well I'm certain if I told Trey that the duct tape and plastic contraption was only a dust cap and that he should be able to drive to his boating/ fishing destination without concern, then I think I would have removed all doubt.
