Default Why Is It?

Why is it that:

You eat fish, it's called "fish".
You eat chicken, it's called "chicken".
You eat duck, it's called :duck".
You eat lamb, it's called "lamb".

but .............................

You eat cow, it's called "beef"
You eat pig, it's called "pork".

Inquiring minds want to know.

And why is it called a HAMburger?
I done asked that question and nobody answered it!

I reckon CowBurger would be harder to market.

I liked that post about the beaver deal. I'm feeling a little rough today... how does that go again?

Eat a beaver, starve a fever?
