Default Thieves invaded the neighborhood last night.

We live in a year round neighborhood here in OBX, a pretty decent cul-de-sac with good folks living in it.

We usually don't lock the vehicles, there's lots of dogs in the 'hood. Lots of motion lights. Last night I didn't even have the doors locked.

Someone went through all the vehicles last night, all 5 houses in the culdesac. Luckily I had nothing worth stealing in the vehicles. I know they were in there because the pennies and nickles from my ashtray were missing, and it was open.

Neighbors lost an ipod, some cash, etc. from a vehicle.

Boats were untouched, my flush mounted electronics and Aftco Gaff were still there. Neighbor has 3K worth of Garmin on his boat, it was untouched also.

Seems like rookies, or just really stupid thieves.

Smart thieves could have made a real haul in a short amount of time.

Nothing worse than feeling invaded by some low-life scum.

Yep, I'd be willing to bet you would know who took your stuff.

I'm headed to the OBX in July to meet up with some friends to do some beachin', drinkin', fishin', motorcylin', drinkin', and fishin'. Not necessarily in that order. My buddy is making the arrangements for the beach house, so I'm not sure exactly where we'll be.

Hell, I'll make you a deal on a safe so I can write the trip off!!!

Outside of that, we all have guns and would love to help you do a little thief huntin' as long as out-of-state permits don't cost that much!

Freebird,

I'd have loved to be up late last night.

Probably was just kids in the neighborhood.

The best thing would have been watching the perps rustle through vehicles, then racking a 12 gauge loudly. That's one sound you will never forget if your doing something wrong. Not that I would have used it, because you can take all my stuff, I can get more, but just to teach a lesson you know.

First, I'm sorry you had trouble.

Second, I can't believe you don't lock doors and people leave valuables in a place where they can get stolen easily. That is ASKING for trouble.

Hopefully this first time around wasn't a scouting operation for bigger and better things at a later date. I'm pleased to hear you didn't get hit to hard..........little bastards!

A few of my neighbors would have definately been pointing weapons had they been alerted to the situation last night. I'm not sure if they would have fired or not.

We're still in NC, I think that Texas is the only state that has more registered gun owners.

Sorry, if you ask me, 14 year olds know better.

Nope, I never owned an Ipod.

Who's Mrs. Johnson?

Lighten up Francis.

In keeping with the stolen gas can thread. You could make a couple counterfeit twenties and leave them in your truck. When the punk passes them along he may have a few problems.

We had a similar incident in a neighborhood we lived in 10 or so years ago.
It turned out to be kids that lived in our neighborhood, who went from car to car looking for anything they could steal. They took change out of ash trays, and anything else they could carry off they thought might have been valuable.
We got lucky and they were caught. Another kid in the neighborhood found a checkbook that had been stolen from my wifes car and returned it to us.
Some peoples kids can be a real pain in the @ss.

I hate kids. That being said...

As stupid as teenagers are, and can be, I don't think being shot, as suggested above, is justifiable for petty larceny, particularly for an underage delinquent.

No doubt they know better. Do they act better? Not usually. Heck, their fathers are probably towing towing their boat with a Honda Odyssey!

... Neighbor has 3K worth of Garmin on his boat, it was untouched.
It would be funny as all hell of they stole the whole boat but left all of the Garmin gear sitting in the driveway.

I know I have an irrational hatred of Garmin product, probably have me in therapy for years if I ever wanted to 'address the issue'.

LOL Come on eyeball, tell us about Garmin products!

Yep, that would be pretty funny alright. I swear to God I know a guy who had a couple of four wheelers loaded onto a trailer to head out eary one morning to go riding. He had not hooked the trailer to his truck, and it was just sitting in the driveway.

When he got up, he looked outside and saw the trailer sitting empty. He said he starting questioning himself if he had actually loaded them onto the trailer. He checked the garage where the four wheelers are normally kept, and they were gone.

I guess those thieves just didn't need a trailer and had taken the four wheelers off it to steal them!

Even the best neighborhoods can have these Summertime car breakins. It is usually bored kids that are out for Summer and just looking for a quick thrill.
