Default Kennebunkport ME

Hey guys, I am planning a trip to Kennebunkport ME this weekend. I am trying to get into The Landing School and have my interview set up for this weekend. I am planning to take their yacht desing course. Anyways i was wondering if we had any fellow THT people up in that area. I am curious as to what i can expect weather wise. I am also pretty curious about the area in general as i know very little about it. I have lived in the south my whole life. Any information would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Rob

Rob,
I live in Cape Porpoise, a couple miles from the Port. Weather looks like it should be good, partly sunny and cool. Long history of boat building here, most of which is gone now. Check out the library downtown for some more info. Good eats everywhere, try Federal Jacks overlooking the river for dinner, and then The Pilot House at Performance Marine for some local color and drinks. Have had a few people work for me out of The Landing School program, all seemed to like it. My brother-in-law was there in the mid 90's and went on to work at Hinckley Yachts.
When do you arrive?

Thanks for the info... I will be coming into town late Saturday and staying until probably Tuesday morning. This is a very spur of the moment trip for the interview. I just graduated from college and had originally planned to work a year and save some money first, then realized that if I started work chances are that I probably would never make it back to school. So now I have decided to try to attend this coming school year and I am working my tail off to get everything done in time. Hopefully if the interview goes well and I get in the I will be back for the year in late August.

Just curious, what kind of work did The Landing School students do for you?

Rob

I own and operate a custom woodturning shop in Biddeford, in the process of building a shop in Cape Porpoise right now.

Interesting... I have a Manufacturing degree from ECU and have some experince with CNC lathes... and a little bit of experince with manual lathes like that. I just don't see how you guys do it, it definately takes a lot of practice and someone who knows what they are doing! That is some beautiful work by the way.

I attended the Landing School, I took Boatbuilding, and Marine Systems. Kennebunkport is a fun town, but winter is long. If you have any questions about the school pm me........Steve
