Default Dale JR to drive RCR #33

That's what I'm hearing, some kind of announcement to be made today at Darlington!

Sounds like the logical thing to do.
RCR wants Jr., Jr. doesn't want to tarnish the #3, double 3 makes a lot of sense.

As much as I miss seeing a black Chevy with a white 3 on the door, I'm glad some things are still sacred.

Wonder who or what Junior will blame if he doesn't win races now?

I have to think he really doesn't care since reaching super hero status in the media for everything BUT winning races. No doubt he is capable, but I have to wonder if motivation isn't more a factor than skill.

After all, he wears his Daddy's jeans!

The way Jr drives he will probably end each race with only the #3 on the car.

If daddy did not come first; would there be all this hype over JR?

Would George Dubya be President?

No doubt Jr. got where he is only because of Sr.

I'd like to see what Kelly can do on the track. I hear she's the best driver of the whole family.

UPDATE 3: Richard Childress said Friday morning at Darlington Raceway that he has not signed Dale Earnhardt, Jr., to drive for Richard Childress Racing and is giving the driver time and space to weigh his options. Along with Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing, RCR is considered one of three front-runners to sign Earnhardt, Jr. for 2008 and beyond, but the car owner emphatically denied that a deal already had been struck, has reported by at least three television stations Thursday. "Dale, Jr. just made a major decision in his career and in his life yesterday," Childress said Friday morning at Darlington. "And out of respect for Teresa (Dale Earnhardt, Inc. team owner Earnhardt), Dale, Jr. and this situation, lets all give him some time to make the decisions that he needs to make and be fair. Hes got a lot of tough decisions to make coming up with the direction hes going, and I just think its fair if we all let him have some space and some time to kind of think about what he wants to do in the future." Childress said that while he would welcome Earnhardt on his team, the two sides have not yet begun negotiations. "We will sit and talk, Im sure," Childress said. "Im hoping hes considering us, but I think right now, we just give him some time and space to do is own due diligence on the race teams hes looking at. Ive been friends with the family for many years and Im sure well talk." As for television reports that a deal was already struck, Childress was categorical in his denials. "Theres nothing to it ... its way too soon to even talk about it," Childress said.(SPEEDtv.com)(5-11-2007)

Why doesn't he start his own team? The money is in merchandising, right? He has the last name and legions of sponsors and fans willing to buy a sweatshirt, bobblehead, etc. I think it's common knowledge nobody has the following he does; people may argue why [sr] but I think he's got the most fans without doubt.

Talk about putting the screws to stepmommy. DEI would lose what 80-90% of revenues outside those directly related to cars and sponsors....ouch Theresa!

I haven't heard anyone talk about him doing his own thing. If he doesn't have the capital today certainly he would find someone to inject the necessary monies and take a small equity position over the long term.

Anyone have any insight on how the ownership thing works? Is it not true that the team owner owns the rights to the collectible cars, jackets, hats, et al?

If you think about it, why would he pay her 50MM for 51% when he can open up shop next door on his own? Remember, HE is the driver and HIS last name is EARNHARDT.... Make sense to anyone?

Theresa is F^^$^D!

I would have rather have 49% of 100 mil plus than 49% of nothing....typical decesion when it comes to women and money.

Wonder if she consoled with her financial advisor...bet not.

The rumor for a while was that DJR and Truex Jr will race for JR motorsports with Hendrix motors.

Inside info tells me that JR motorsports will take over the DEI Busch teams. DJR will eventually race for RCR and the b*tch (Theresa) will wind up with the Robert Yates' racing team.

Gotta love NASCAR when it envolves an Earnhardt!

DEI still has and will always have the rights to SR's mercandising.....and by calling her names in my opinion you disrespect the memory of the top three greatest drivers in the sport. Time will tell how it falls out.

DEI hold the right to Dale Sr's signature and the #8. The black #3 merchandise without dale sr's sig is owned by RCR. The real meaning in dale jr's statements when he was talking about money would be about the rights to merchandising. If RCR would give jr exclusive rights to his signature along with the #3, he would do it in a heartbeat. DEI only makes money off of dale sr's sig, and the #8, so now a days, that is insignificant. Dale jr moving to the rcr #3 car would generate more merchandise and marketing revenue than the sport has ever seen in history.

You are talking about a great deal of capital........and he has never run a team........I think the unfavorable risk/return ratio may prevent your scenario from happening.

Tireless,
I realize what you say. Having said that, I don't think we have a good handle on the AMOUNT of monies that are involved w/ the merchandising.I do know for a fact that is a staggering number. [THINK THE OLSEN TWINS WHO ARE WORTH A BILLION DOLLARS AT 18 YEARS OLD!]

Bugbuster: if RCR owns sr's mechandising and not DEI, then you hit it. If jr could ink part of the real money w/ Childress ad infinitum i.e. if he leaves or retires, then that would be a no brainer. Take part of the profit for no business risk. Amen brother!
