Mullet is going to Heaven

All dogs do go to Heaven don't they? I just got off the phone with Michelle. She is on her way to take our 13 year old Golden "Mullet" for a final trip to the vet. He's been in declining health and it is to the point he can't even get up by himself. It's definitely "time" but I am still sitting here welling up thinking about the hole this is going to leave in our household and in our hearts.

Yep, all dogs go to Heaven. Sorry to hear the news man, I really am. Losing a pet is very hard, but that's the price we pay for loving something we know will die before we do.

Too bad turtles are ugly and won't come when you call them. Sorry, I'm not trying to make a joke about your situation, but laughing beats the hell out of crying whenever there's an option.

Hang in there and remember the good times! He'll be looking down at you and doing the same thing. :)

Shag,
I feel your pain, I have been in your shoes, the pain will lessen in time, your memories never will. :(

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks folks. She isn't home yet and I am sitting here with our 7 year old Golden frustrated that I can't explain why his buddy isn't coming home. Here's a pic from a few weeks ago. It was after one of his last swims at Harkers.

Oh Shag, I had to take our Shar Pei to the vet and not take him home...he was too sick and had cancer. Had to call the hubby to let the kids (then like 10 & 6) know that their buddy was not going to be coming home to play with them... It is a heart ache when you have to put down the family pet. My sister is getting ready to say good bye to her "baby" St. Bernard. She has rescued two of them from Canada and they have become their whole lives...they are really a part of the family!

Sorry to hear this!

As others have said, with time the pain will be less. There will always be a piece of him with you. Time will help.

Condolences to you and yours.

Unfortunately, the saddest part is you and your wife understand, but the golden will be confused and sorrowful also. So make sure you play with the golden alot more.

Hey, dogs grieve the loss of their buddies as well as I can tell you from experience.

I had two dogs when I married my wife who had one. We lost two (hers and my youngest) within just a couple of months of each other, and the third (my oldest) was a basket case for a long time. He wouldn't leave my side at all, he cried all the time, and he took a while to start eating again. Eventually he came to enjoy being the only child again!

I love dogs, but sometimes you have to wonder if it's really worth it when you lose them.

Hang in there Shag. At least you still have one buddy to keep you company.

Sorry for your pain, Shag. Remember that our animals count on us to make the right decisions for them, and y'all did just that. Dont try to forget him, just remember the good times....remember all those shoes he probably chewed up as a pup?? And then he acted like he did'nt do it?? They own us, we don't own them.

Take care.

Pat

Shag, I feel for you man. Lost my oldest lab on April 18th after 12 years with her. Bad part is we had a trip planned to Disney and were there when she died. I stood outside the animal kingdom on April 18th and cried just like a child when my dad called me. We can all take comfort in knowing that the kind heart and soul of a dog is not judged at the Rainbow bridge but taken with the same unconditional love that they show us while they are here on earth. Taylor is missed in my home as I know that Mullet is in yours.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Lost Tassy, one of my old seacat, last year at the age of 17. She liked to sit with me when I was at the computer. Still miss her.

Re: Mullet is going to Heaven

Thanks to all for the kind words. I am continually realizing how much he was involved in our daily life. Just the little stuff like trying not to trip over a dog who is no longer there. Only putting food in one bowl. The real bummer is that Grouper, our 7 year old Golden, is still looking for him. I am sure time will heal but even after having to do this 3 previous times, it ain't never easy.

Thanks again.
