I thought this was a Nigerian scam until I read it...

Here is an email I got today...

--
Dear Mr. xxxxx:

My name is Christine Pike and my father was Michael. In April he passed on
due to a failed surgical procedure involving his neck and an old fracture from
an auto accident.

In his will he named four people who were most significant in his life.
Yourself, his brother Exum, his dad, and a deceased friend who worked with him at
Walter Reed. He wanted you to know that your knowledge, understanding of the
human psyche, and willingness to offer others a fair shake contributed greatly
to his life after leaving your employment. Dad was a bulldog with a puppy
inside. He wanted you to know that he was "sick in the head" and missed you
like a brother but continued on and somehow managed to get us all through
college. Lyn BS in ballet, Christine RN and Natalie currently at URI in hospital
administration.

I am writing this email as one of last requests.

Wishing you and your family continued success and happiness,

Christine

Note: Michael Pike was a student of mine and later an employee and confidante. After we parted ways in 1996, I stayed in touch with him sporadically. Knowing that someone wrote in his will that you were one of 4 people most significant in his life is heavy.

Kind of cool to getting named in the will as someone important. I think I'm going to have to esculate my opinion of greyg8r.

Ok, how does one not survive neck surgery on a fractured? I am guessing it would be very unusual not to survive such a surgical procedure.

I dunno. The neck injury, by the way, occurred in Vietnam. Mike was an auto tech during the war and he and a couple of guys were installing an engine into a jeep. The engine swung forward, hitting Mike in the forehead, giving him a concussion, whiplash and neck injuries from which he never fully recovered.

Every surgery has the risk of death.
