Default Duramax Diesel Owners?

Our family is in the process of moving to a larger boat, probably in the 9-10k lb range. With a boat upgrade comes a truck upgrade. Most likely we will be replacing our Silverado 1500 with a 2500HD w the 6.6 Diesel.

This will most likely be my husband's daily driver also, with rising gas/diesel prices we are wondering whats the expected fuel mileage. City and Highway, unloaded because we only tow probably twice a month so we are more concerned with unloaded daily driving numbers. We both drive very conservative on the highway, around 65-70mph.

Get a Ford. With my 2005 F250 diesel in FL, I get 16.8 MPG overall with a lot of that at 80 MPH on the interstate. If I slow to 65, I can get between 18-19 MPG.

First of all don't listen to gdniffen. The 6.0 Ford has been plauged with problems and the new twin turbo motor already has at least one recall. I have an 05 duramax, and love it. I get 16mpg over 2000rpm, and if the wife drives, (under 2000rpm) we get almost 21. When I put the chip and exhaust on the truckI tow a rig that weighs close ro 8000lbs and I hardly notice it back there. If you really want a Ford and can find an older 7.3 with low milage it too is a great truck.

I just switched fron a Dodge Dually 06 to an 07 2500 Dmax. Great truck, gets about 17-19 mpg but keep in mind that the more you drive them the btter the mileage gets.

Mine is stock - a 2004. I have averaged 13.3 miles per gallon since I bought it. Don't get how everyone else gets such better milage... Nice truck, I shopped them all. Fit and finish, comfort and power, liked the chevy best.

I own a 2003 GMC Crewcab Duramax Allison and get about 14 mpg in town consistently, anywhere from 18-22 on the highway unloaded and around 12 mpg towing my 21.5' fifth wheel and 22' boat. This is over 62,000 miles of driving since I bought it in September 2002. I have been very satisfied with it so far.

I bought a 2006 3500 chevy duramax about 6 months ago. I had an f-250 for the past 7 years, 7.3 powerstroke. The Duramax/Allison combo is amazing! So smooth & strong. I get 16 mpg. My friend has a 2002 2500, duramax with 247,000 miles no problems.
