Default Ford 6.0l diesel vs. duramax

Hi all, I came across a 2005 Ford Excursion with all the toys. I just started looking for a GM crew cab with the duramax. (thanks for posting the pictures here.....) Not being in the hunt too deep for the vehicle yet, what can anyone tell me of their experience with the Ford 6.0? I did a brief search and the Ford seems to have some issues that haven't been completely addressed, and I saw a supplier problem as well. So for the 6.0 owners: How has the engine been for you?

The Excursion is an '05 limited. Been thinking GM Silverado/Sierra .

Any experiences appreciated.

The 03 6.0's have the most problems, the 04's and newer have many less problems per unit sold, but it seems if you get a bad one, nothing ever goes right for you...... I have an '04 and have had zero problems except a small amount of fuel in oil, but Blackstone says it is very small, and not to worry.

The early Duramax's had their share of injector problems also, but largely seemed to be worked out, but like the 6.0, if you get a turd, it will never become a diamond....

***VERY STEREOTYPICAL POST COMING UP****
Duramax...Quietest of the bunch, good Tranny
Ford..........Quiet, but louder than Duramax, Excellent Tranny, least plastic interior
Dodge.......Max power, horrible Tranny (Except the 6sp manual) Truck falls apart around motor

Most people agree a Ford truck with a Cummins engine and a Torqshift Tranny would be the best combo.....at least around here...but the Carolina's are pretty much Ford country.....

BTW: Torqshift is a name Ford chose because Allison is a trademarked company name, but both Trannies do almost the same thing, and the Torqshift has been around in Super Duties much longer.....

One thing I notice is that you see a lot more of the Ford's for sale than the Chevy's w the duramax. Just my opinion but that should tell you something

Well, drove it again today. Its a good looking truck, but I just couldn't get excited about it. It seemed to wander a little bit above 40 mph. Don't know if they all do that, but this one did. I got the vin # and called a Ford dealership I had dealt with in the past. It had been back three times for engine work. Injectors twice and a turbo problem once. He echo'd Somethin-Fisheys remark about there being good ones and bad ones. When pressed, he said this looked like a bad one to him.

The search goes on.......

Thanks

It tells you that Ford makes twice as many as Chevy, therefore the law of averages means there are twice as many for sale, in the used market also....

Also could tell you that FORDS SUCK! but that would be posting the truth.

I wonder why my landscaper keeps buying them after all he's been thru. That could only end up into a "he said they did" post and we'd never get to to the bottom of it after 5 more pages .

I do have a 03 F250 SD gas job for a site truck. Don't even go there.

They really don't sell twice as many Fords as Chevys. If you add in the GMC, same truck different name, they actually have sold as many trucks as Ford for a number of years. I have a GMC Duramax Crewcab, 2003, and have almost 63,000 miles on it. Have been very satisfied with the GMC so far. I love the ride, have even taken a 4,500 mile trip in it to pick up a boat and the ride was very good, not as good as a luxury car, but pretty good. Has no trouble towing my 21.5' fifth with the 22' boat hitched to the back of the trailer.

I have a 2003 Super Duty with a June '03 engine build. The truck has provided 65k (30k towing) miles of great service and I am still impressed with the mileage and power.
