Stranded on land again because it's too small...............

Well the dreaded NE wind has been steady 17-20 plus knots for the last 3 days and IF I had a 30ft. Sportcraft id be out there drifting for trophy walleye.

Instead Im landlocked while my 21 Seasquirl sitting at the dock. Ho hum..............................

It's not like It couldnt handle it but it would be miserable with the tight 4-6 foot waves from every direction.....

I've got a case of the 10 footitis.

;? ;? ;? ;? :o :o :o :o

Those conditions sound none too fun for 30'r either. We went from 16' to 22' to 26' to 33' in three seasons. The step from 22 - 26 got us a very noticeble diference in comfort and performance in marginal weather. Our current ride is good in some tough seas but I'm not sure I'd go out in tight 4-6 footers to fish if I had a choice - just no fun to drift around while dealing with those conditions.
See how much $$$ I just saved you?

Its about 7 miles to the lee of s. bass island but you have to go through an area called the "slop chute". There are numerous shoals there and lots of chop funneled through. Once you run that gap your ok. A 30 can plane through 3s and 4s where my 21 cant.

That trawler of yours looks very seakindly.

The 28 foot boats I have had can do the 3 foot LI Sound Chop, but it isn't fun...

Well I was out in it in my 22 ft'r trying for walleye and lemme tell you it sucked. Be glad you stayed in. My back is killing me from all the pounding. I don't think it woulda been all that much more enjoyable in a 30 either :(

My current boat is a 46x14 and to make you feel better, a 6ft wave rocks and rolls her all over the place. Heck, a 6ft sea can beat you hard enough to knock the yeast right out of your sandwich bread. Is a 46ft safer than a 21ft boat? Sure. Comfortable in any boat? - No.
