Default cell phones can or can not?

Got a debate going right now on the capability of cell phones. Big long story. The main question being, can a cell phone be used to relay a signal from a car lock remote entry device. In other words if I lock my keys in my car, can I call my other half who has a remote entry key pad for my car. Then they place the device next to their cell phone and key the unlock button, my cell phone recieves the signal and unlocks my doors.

I checked it out via the urban legends web site and they state that it is not possible because of the differences in radio signals used by the two devices (cell phone and key fob).

Here on THT we have a whole pile of techno people and I figured one of you guys would be a hands on cell phone technical guy that could confirm or deny this legend once and for all.

If you are wondering what side I am on: I say no way. A cell phone is a miraculous piece of technology, but it can't do this, and it can't be used as a birth control device either.

You're wrong about that. If a woman holds it tightly between her knees, it makes a very effective birth control device!

I went high tech. about 30 years ago.

Use some good wire and tie a spare door key to the frame of your truck[ mags fall off ] my wife has used it twice.

that is an urban legend. the answer is no, you cannot use a phone to relay a signal from a keyless entry remote.

i heard about that a long time ago when i used to install that kind of stuff for a living, and i was gullable enough to try it

As has been said, no it won't work.... HOWEVER...... I disagree with it not being an effective birth control device, it is highly effective if I use it to call your wife and tell her I saw you with another woman and you both were naked..... I guarantee you'll never reproduce again...

Naked?

or

Nekked?

It makes a difference.

You call my wife go ahead I dares you! I'll send my big old ugly garbage can to see you.

As for the cell phone question. It never ceases to amaze me how many misguided or just plain imature individuals wil get an email from Lord knows who. Accept it as fact, and pass it on to others with a note saying, yep,I tried it and it works. Then when confronted with the true facts it all of a sudden turns into their brother's wife sister's cousin's uncle that really tried it but it still works. When I first started using a computer I was duped repeatedly, now I am very very skeptical of anything I get off the net. Besides this one is just plain dang stupid. Stupid? Yes, stupid. You got to be really slow to lock your keys in an automobile with a RKE system.
