Default Garage Door Opener

Can anyone recommend a garage door opener. I will be installing one on a new townhouse. It is a single car garage with 7 or 8 foot door. The master bedroom is above the garage. I would like one that is fast and quiet. Thanks for your help.

I have 4 Genie 1/2 hp screw drives. They are relatively inexpensive and relatively quiet.

Nas, I just replaced mine this winter, 5 years old. It had a screw-drive with the cheap track wheels (no ball bearings) Replaced it with a LiftMaster belt drive and replaced the track wheels, and it's a LOT quieter. I would also insist on the "upgraded" track wheels with the ball-bearings in 'em. It'll cost ya a little more upfront, but I think you'll be happier in the long run. Just my .02.

It's also important to do a little research to find an installer that knows his stuff. Proper installation of the rails and adjusting the spring tension, etc. makes a world of difference in the performance. My door is 18' wide and 8' tall.

Thanks for the input guys.

Are they that hard to install by yourself? I am pretty mechanically inclined.

nah, but on the liftmaster belt drive...make sure you do not get ahead of the directions.

an electric impact wrench does make the job so much easier when driving those lag bolts into the ceiling and spring board.
