Default 2500 Chevrolet Speedo "stuck"

My chevy suburban 2500 spedo just went haywire. Moves from 60 at idle to off the scale while doing around 60. Anyone had a similar problem. Oh yeah 04 model with 38k.

Can't tell you what to what to replace yet. I would get someone to connect a scanner to see what speed the Power Train Control module is seeing. If it sees a normal speed it's probably the instrument cluster, if not go for the vehicle speed sensor. Good Hunting............

Maybe a piece of sausage (low boil) stuck in the instrument cluster?

Sounds like the stepper motor in the Gage cluster, common problem on the 04's. You may be able to find a company on ebay that repairs these from time to time for less cash than the dealer is going to get you for.

POS GM product is the problem. GM knows it but won't do anything about it. Wait till the MAP goes South more than once.

I've been told it was the head and or the computer. The fix starts at 400 berries. It will clear itself for a while then return. Mine was so bad I carried my hand held GPS to get the data. Never knew when it would crap the bed and return in the same trip. The last time was as I was trading the SOB. It cost me then!!!!!

I traded the GMC for a Jap ride Titan and to date been very happy. I don't need the 2500 ride anymore. Most people start to bust my cookies then admit I made the right choice.

Your down South so you don't have the rot problem of the brakes.... Yet.

Good luck

FYI, I'm not trying to turn your thread around.

It will return to working normal. Well mine did anyway and a friends acted the same way. Keep the title in hand and when it repairs itself dump it back onto GM if you can stomach another one.

With your water toy showing, I'm assuming you still need a bigger truck to move it around.

my 04 yukon xl speedo will stick below 0 and read 30 when I'm doing 65, then the next day it will read 110 when I'm doing 65, then it returns to normal for a few days. Dealer don't know how to fix it as it never acts up when he has it. Also some mornings I have no dash indicator lights on anything, a/c, radio, odo, shift inducator, etc. after a mile or the light up. Won't do it for dealer even if left overnight. Seriuosly thinking of a new Tundra.i

Definately sounds like the stepper motors. My '04 Tahoe did the same thing. I ordered a entire gauge cluster from E-bay for about $100 shipping included. It is very easy to change the cluster.

Mine did it on my avalanche and simply starting and turning off the engine about 10 times brought mine back to zero, it was jumping back about 5 mph from where it was stuck every time the engine shut down, it has not gotten stuck since

As he said.. I wouldn't trade the truck just because of this but that is your call. You can change the cluster out in about 30 minutes, very easy
