Default Needing advice.

Hello, Well My Wife and I have just moved to the Raliegh area back on the first of the year, with our two children. We both have great jobs. Well what I consider great jobs yearly income of 95,000 to 100,000 combined before taxes. Our problem lies in the fact that the girl we are renting from right know is being forclosed on. and we have until june 23rd to be out of the house. New or slightly used houses in the 1300sqft to 1500sqft are selling for about 100.00 to 108.00 per square foot. We have traveled to the area of morehead (general area) and really like it. We are not from the city and not really hip on the city life. (ie hunting, fishing and gardening.) We are thinking about packing up and heading that way but not really sure if the money is there that we need to support our family and sporting lifestyle. My present job is for a medium sized site development company, (Foreman/Superintendent Salary 55,000 yearly) and Wifes job is home respitory care (houly 22.50 roughly 40,000 to 50,000 yearly) Basically not sure what to do. I want a little bit slower paced life style, with the ability to make somewhere around what I am making now. And my children to grow up with good morels and beliefs about life. I want them to be able to have the chance at hunting, fishing and and outdoor life. And be able to decide if it is right for them I don't think that is really here in Raliegh as it would be living near a smaller city towards the coast in a rural town. If anyone has a take on this I would really like to hear both pro's and con's of a neautral party on what others would do. Thank you Ron Sergeant.

Hey Ron,

I was born in Durham but I haven't lived in NC since I was 8 years old. I would have to think you could move out to one of several rural areas surrounding Raleigh. Smithfield comes to mind as my grandfather pastored a church there many years ago.

I would think the closer you move to the coast, the more expensive everything will get. Cove City just outside of New Bern was always a very nice little farming community with friendly folks who love to hunt and fish. I still have many relatives who live there as well. They are not as close to popular beaches as Morehead City is, so I'm sure it would be less expensive and more laid back.

There seem to be a bunch of Carolina boys on here who will be more up to date on things in that part of the country than I am, but if it where me, I'd just look for a real good barbecue place and move in close by!

Just because the landlord is being foreclosed does not mean you have to move. The new owner will have to evict you.

In my state, notice of eviction deliverred means you have 30 days to leave. If you apeal to a court that's at least another 30 days. Then 30 days from the judge orderring you out.

Laws do vary so you should check with your local housing authorities or hire an attornery. Also, dont be afraid to speak to the new owner. Something less unpelasant could be worked out.

Good luck!

BINGO!!!

Ron, you are actually in the drivers seat - you have 0 obligation to leave until the marshals force you to leave.

As noted, laws do vary, but having bought a foreclosed home for its land in RI, I can tell you from first hand experience it took me nearly 5 months to get the tenants to leave (5 rent free months I might add) so I could doze the place.

I finally got rid of them by handing them a grand to go away.

No offense boys, but I don't think this guy was looking for legal advice as to being forced to move out of a place he apparently really doesn't care much for.

Good advice though just in case he can't find a place before that deadline comes up, but maybe that deadline has already been declared by a court who is aware of his position in that home.

Either way, good luck on finding a new home there NC boy!

Hey Ron, We moved to Morehead City four years ago. Grew up in northern NJ and had EVERYTHING we ever wanted within about 30-45 minute drive away, except the beach...well, we moved "down here" and have the beach, but are finding out that it is way too rural for what we like. We are considering a major move to southern Florida in a year or two....you will not find that kind of money down here. Housing is still very decent and with all the houses for sale and not moving, can be a great time for the buyer! The schools are ok...and we are both teachers! There are some "poverty" areas and then there are mega million dollar properties on the "beach" (Emerald Isle, Pine Knoll Shores, Atlantic Beach)..if there is anything else I can tell ya, just ask...
