Default Kidney Stones

Hell, looks like some of ya'll are into pain, so I figured I'd launch the ultimate pain thread.

If you've ever had one, you'll know what I mean. I've talked to women who have had them, and they tell me that given the choice between natural childbirth and a kidney stone, they'd take childbirth!

Man, the first one I had (I've had about 10) dang near killed me and I didn't have a clue what was going on. It felt like my right "boy" was in a vice, and then it started hurting like hell.

I went to the ER and got myself diagnosed with a stone. It took several days, but I finally passed it. Upon finding that thing in the screen bottomed cup I was given to pee in, I immediately called the local rock station and requested they play "Stone Free" by either Jimmie Hendrix or Clapton!

Thank God! For lithotrypsy!
Is that a purty good drug?

LOL, the next to the last one I had was purty big according to my Dr as they decided to keep me in the hospital overnite having gone in at about 9 that evening.

He came into my room the next morning and said he may stick a catheter in my man parts and pluck that puppy out!! I asked him to describe how big it might be based on the X-rays, and he drew me a picture.

I looked at it and said, "Nah, this too shall pass!" Contrary to popular belief, launching them puppies ain't what hurts. Now iffin I had a smaller caliber pistol, that might change things a bit!

The pressure those things cause when your pee pee backs up along with it tearing into everything between point A and point "D" is what really hurts!

Had one about 3 years ago.
I have an unusually high tolerance for pain but that was the first time in my life that I took any kind of pain medicine. Mine was stuck in my right ureter between my kidney and bladder and I had to wait a week until I could have the lipotripsy.

Not fun.

At 36 years old I've had 5 episodes starting about 10 years ago. The first couple of stones demerol took the edge off. Now I just drink lots of water when I felt the others coming on and passed in usually about 5-6 hours. People don't know pain until they experience kidney stones. Once you pass them = no more pain instantly.

I awoke tuesday morning at 3 am thinking I may have gotten food posioning from the two chicken wings I had eaten before bedtime at 10 pm.

After puking a few times and my side hurting like all hell I tried to tough out what ever the hell the problem was. After floping around on my bed and the floor for about 4 hours ( my border collie was going nuts ) I called my brother to take me to the EM room and I just walked in and laid down in the middle of the waiting area

At 8:30 they gave me three doses thru the IV , one was morphine . They gave me the cat scan news, two medium stones coming thru .

They wrote me a scirpt for percoset and sent me home and it hurt like hell untill 10 pm that nite.

Next time Ill just start screaming for morphine when I hit the door. Ive got plenty of pain killers on hand but I dont think I could take them after the pain starts because of the puking.

Kidney stones will bring the sissy out of any one.

Hey man, I tell you the last time I had a stone was about two years ago (which means I'm about due ) and I used a new technique at the ER.

When I went to sign in, I just handed them my insurance card and driver's license and told them I was in too much pain to be able to write, which was true. I also told them I had been down that road many times and didn't want to scare the kids in the waiting room by rolling in the floor screaming!

They took me right in and hooked me up with some Torridall (sp?) which fixed me right up.

Last one, I had to have the lithotrypsy my right ureter was stopped up completely. Dr gave me a choice between litho or CATHETER RETRIEVAL, all I can say is litho sure was good,.

The stone I got at 23 years old I was in a remote area accessable by boat only, 2 hr boat ride to the road and another 30 minutes to the hospital. I thought I was going to die, then I wished I was gonna die, then I was scared that I was going to have to live in pain. Thank the Lord for demerol.

I don't reckon anybody would mind if I take my thread off track just a bit, but what exactly is lithotrypsy?

I was threatened with a catheter (never had one before, never want one either ) to retreive a fairly good sized one, but I "passed" on it! I know of the treatment where they break up big ones by putting you in a tub of water and using some type of shock waves, but I don't remember what you call that.

There is little doubt in my mind I will have more stones despite the suggestion I cut out caffein altogether and drink lots of water. I tried that in between a couple of stones and it didn't work, so I'm back to being a Coke addict. I just want to make sure I know all the options in case the next one has too much girth for birth!

lithotrypsy, I believe is just as you described, uses shock waves to break up a stone.

I thought that was only for stones too large to pass.

I can't imagine that being used if extraction through a catheter was on the table, but who knows?

I've had 17 kidney stone attacks! The worst by far was when I was coaching a HS football game on the road....A three hour bus trip! I "bit my lip" during the game and had to endure that long ride home. As soon as we rolled into the parking lot I hopped into my truck and drove myself to the hospital. Three hours later it finally passed. Oh.....we won the game!

Litho works well , however not all hosp. have that capibilities. We see these every day in the OR, and even though I only do Orthopedics, I have gone in on some that were real bolders, that they use a laser to emulsify. A couple shots of a laser and the stone is dust and flushed. This does however violate your man part but asleep!!
Pity you guys that are prone to these, cause you are right I have never seen such pain!! At this point we have only ever seen it not felt it!!
