Brother in law has one driven by 90 hp gas engine

The key is to get a solid bed so that the saw cuts straight

Keeping the band saw sharp is a big issue, if not done properly it will cut crooked

You will have to stack the cut green wood so that it does not warp

HAVE FUN

Have built, owned, operated..........RUNAWAY NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worse than a boat !!!!!

Get the level right....good sharp saw (hammered correctly)....perfect feed rate....everything just
exactly right.........first log..........NAIL...or RAIL/SPIKE....(ESPECIALLY FROM "FRONT/BACK YARD TREES"..

......OOPS.......START ALL OVER AGAIN......35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE from producing 5,000' per day
to 50,000' per day.........I would rather have two run down boats/motors....visit my proctologist twice weekly and ride around once a week for 2 hours with my ex wife than have another sawmill !!!

Thanks Clark. After talking to a few folks and hearing your thoughts, I think I will pass.
My wife retires in June and I'm looking for something to do that gets me out of the house 3 or 4 days a week.

Re: Portable Band Sawmills

I hat a wood mizer LT 30 for 6 years and hardly experienced any of the problems above!! After I adjusted mine the first time I never touchhed it exceptto change blades. I cut over 5000 trees in six years with mine and loved every minute of it. When I bought the property I live on now I cut around 300 trees into lumber and built three buildings with the lumber. All the trim in the house was done from Poplar and Oak I cut on the sawmill. Once you get one it is addicting as boating. One has to remember that you must have a place to stake and dry your lumber. Lumber takes up alot of room while it is staked. I built a pole shed 16' X 32' and filled it to the roof the first two weeks!! The best thing is when I was done I sold it for what I paid for it. The Wood mizers hold their value extremely well not like a boat!!!....Mark

I have a Norwood with a Honda motor. This is a basic machine. It has no hydraulics....everything is manual. With one helper I can do about 1000 board feet a day of boards. More if only cutting beams. I built a 2600 sq. ft log cabin and a 2800 post and beam house with it. Never again!
By the time you pay for everything you would be better off buying the lumber from a production mill. Mine is now a "hobby mill".

I've decided to find something else to do. The support equipment is 2 to 3 times mill cost. To many issues to deal with, waste, storage, etc.

Thxs for your input.
