Default Question on Smoke Alarm Batteries

Why do they fail and start chirping at 3 AM instead of 3 PM? Am I installing them at the wrong time of day? Thanks

If they are the hard wired detectors, the electricians that wired your house hooked them up to the "wrong" side of the light switch to get them powered. The batteries only run down at night when the lights are off.

Smoke alarms [ none batt. ] are to be hard wired on there own breaker, Per the NEC2005.
