Default Computer on Vacation

I have a Dell Laptop and when I head down to our beach house I would like to access the internet. We do not have an internet service there since we are not there but a few weeks each year and the rest of the time we rent the house out.

What are my options for access, could I join one of the cheaper dial up services and will that work with my current set up??

Currently we use wireless connection around the house for my laptop and the kids computer is a desk top model

We use the cable internet

Thanks for some suggestions, it would be nice to check the fishing sites in Charleston as well as weather and wave heights

Hmmm, you can get one of those cellular cards for your laptop, but you have to sign a 1-2 year contract. They work very well and run roughly $50/month.

The first thing you can do is turn your wireless on and right click the wireless icon. Then select "View Wireless Networks". If you're lucky, you'll see one or two in your locale that are not secure and you can select connect to access the internet. The othe option is get near a mall or shopping center and do the same. Otherwise, a cheap dial-up may be the best, slo-o-o-w-w-w option. Larger marinas with liveaboards often have open wireless access.

Check with your home internet provider. They probably include a basic dial-up service with maybe 20 hours a month with your existing plan. If it is a major carrier, they probably have an access number at the beach house.

Yep, I always try to "jack" when on vacation. My computer searches for the signals.
