There are different types of second lives Menzies:

2nd marriages
2nd careers
2nd shot at life after dying and coming back

Gotta give us more to work with here....

They say cats have nine lives, well I'm on my second or third cat by now! But in saying that, I have to say each one seems to be just a little better then the last one.

Not sure if it's technically my "second," but after what was arguably the WORST year of my entire life I now find myself with a wonderful new man, a wonderful new home (no more rented guesthouse here!), the restoration of good health after a really scary illness (when the doc tells you to get your affairs in order, that's not a good sign)....a faith stronger than I could have imagined before all this (and I thought I had strong faith before).

He partnered with me on my 25' Whaler, so I didn't even have to give her up.

My only regret is that my wonderful bassets were adopted into a new forever home before we moved into our new home, so I cannot reclaim them from the sanctuary that took them in. I will not disrupt their little lives once again. We plan to look for a pound puppy to add to our family soon, though.

My life got turned upside down in 2004 and has been doing 180's ever since.

I sure will be glad when I can get to a point in the future when I can look back and see how all this crap makes sense then!

I've just always thought everything happens for a reason, but now I'm just looking for a reason why everything keeps happening!!!

Yes you could say I am on the 2nd.
2 weeks before christmas Dr says to the wife, " I see something on the cat scan and want to schedule surgery".
Day after christmas I am watching her get wheeled down the corridor towards surgery.
That morning the Dr calls " I found a tumor , it was cancerious ".
Oncologist says " You have a 1 in 100 chance of beating this ", nice odds huh.
4 months later, she appears to be the 1 in 100, cat scans are clear and she is doing great. I even got used to the wig and the chemo is bearable.

Present day, there is no more " wait till later " you never know what later will bring. We want to do something, we do it.
I guess it's a 2nd chance for both of us.

Artie, it is amazing, isn't it??
I think those of us who have a big health scare have received an important blessing, and wakeup call.

Garrett, Jane, thanks for the kind words.

Sheila – You’re making me blush…….

Those of you that have followed my story of the past 7-months know that I’ve had a pretty wild and crazy ride, and frankly I still have some challenges ahead this year.

Even my faithful and much loved Fear Naut is gone (sold to buy into Sheila's Revenge).

Nonetheless I can look back and see how this has, however difficult, all worked out for my long term good.

For those of you in the midst of it – My heartfelt sympathy and words of encouragement that a lot of good stuff can be found in or learned from life’s greatest difficulties. There are times when all you have to go on is faith and hope for the future - those two things can carry you a long way if you let them.

7-months ago almost my entire world was destroyed. Today I am rebuilding my life after having learned a lot of hard lessons. Notthe least of thesewas which friends were truly friends, which weren’t, and what’s REALLY important in life.

Thanks, Jane.
You know that bit of Christian writing, "Footprints in the Sand"? Where someone dreams of walking beside Jesus, reviewing the person's life, seeing two sets of footprints, the person's and Jesus' . The person inquires of our Lord, "why is it that during the most difficult times, there are only one set of footprints? Why were you not beside me?" And Christ replies, "That was when I carried you." That's a paraphrase, but it gets the gist across...

That's sort of what this time has been like for me. Through devastation, tragedy, fear, uncertainty, all those worldly burdens, the steady stream of blessings both large and small that He has provided to us is unmistakable and truly amazing.

I'm going to ask Rich to post some photos of our new home. It truly is a sanctuary for us.

PS: Maybe I'll ask him to put the photos in a new thread so as not to hijack the "second life" theme here.
