Default We all need to..................for FarmerJane

We all need to say a little prayer for Jane today, today is her big day at the dentist office!

I have to say, I like that girl!

- She's the type that will go outside in the rain with an umbrella, but the umbrella is full of holes so she'll just throw it away.
- Her suit of armor that she wears so proudly, well it's rusty and falling off, but she still polishes it every morning.
- She's the one that will say don't step in the fresh cow patties, yet she'll be the one with stinky feet.

I know we all can't see her face everyday she is on here, but I always get the sense she is smiling.............................but not today. So for that Jane we all here will smile for you while your mouth feels like it just gave birth to a barn and your face feels like it was run over by a tractor!

Very eloquently said, Garett! But seriously FJ, you are on my prayer list for "quick and as painless as possible" extractions of those bad-boys.

If, when you come back to the foums, your words look like they were dumped out of a box of cereal, we understand that it's probably ole Jack Daniels doin' the typin' while he keeps ya company for a while!

I'll share a little story with ya'll about a trip to the dentist I had a few years back.

I went in for a fairly routine cleaning but he decided I needed a deeper than usual cleaning and told me I would need a shot of novacain to get me through the procedure. This guy was always very slow and easy in my previous visits, but on this particular morning he was running behind.

When he smeared that jelly stuff on my gums he got it all over my tongue which went numb immediately. I sat there while he was obvioiusly multi-tasking with another patient to the point where his assistant actually left me to go find him. When he came back into the room with me, he very hurriedly picked up that shot of novacain and headed toward my mouth!

Instead of his usual easing the needle in fractions at a time, he harpooned me and severed my lingual nerve! I came out of that chair and he said, "oops"! I thought to myself, "I'll show you 'oops' you @#$%^&*!" He asked me if it had felt like an electrical shock, and I said, "Yeah, like somebody dropped a 220V line into my hot tub while I was wearing copper underwear!" He went on to say that at least I would be good and numb for the procedure, and he apologized profusely.

Later that evening he called me at home, something he always did whenever I had something done, and asked how I was doing. I told him I was still numb, but he told me it would just take a while for things to come back to normal. That night my wife made a nice dinner, but when I started eating, everything tasted funny. I asked her, "Honey, did you do something different with this roast beef tonight?" She said no, but nothing tasted right.

Later than evening my tongue felt like I had stuck it into a bowl of hot steaming soup or something and hurt like hell! It kept me awake most of the night, and then when I ate, I found I tasted absolutely nothing at all! I ended up being referred by my dentist to a specialist at a hospital who gave me a "taste test" which I promptly flunked! He told me of a micro-surgeon in Atlanta who may be able to help, but this kind of thing was very touchy and he could do more harm than good. I told him thanks, but not thanks. Besides, now that I was "tasteless" I told him at least I didn't have to pick stuff off a pizza I didn't like!

In the days that followed, I would take a piece of chocolate and run it from one side of my tongue to the other. I would taste sweet, bitter, or nothing at all as I ran it back and forth. My taste eventually returned for the most part, but it comes and goes sometimes. Coke still tastes bitter to me, and if I stop and think about it, my tongue still hurts!

Maybe I should have waited until Farmer Jane had her work over and done with before I shared this little story!

OOPS!!!

And like that's not bad enough, the poor gal has had an infection in her wisdom tooth, and has had to wait for weeks to get an appt with the dentist, so she's been livin' with some pain, for a while there.

Garett,.....Your first post here quite eloquent.

Jane,..... by the time you read this it will be all over, and itís good to get that experience in the past.

In 1951 our US Navy destroyer tied up alongside a hospital ship so the crew could all have dental inspections, no big deal Iím 18 years old never had a tooth problem. Iím sitting in the dentists chair and he said ďthose wisdom teeth will give you trouble some day so why donít we pull em out right nowď? I said OK, do it. Donít remember much pain, if any and over the years I was glad to get that behind me.

I remember, some 20 years ago, the day before I had all my teeth pulled for false teeth, I was thinking how great it would be if I could turn time ahead a couple of days. No such luck, awful experience.

Get well Jane, we miss ya.

Did I sue? Nah, he was a good guy and as others told me he couldn't have hit that nerve if he had tried to!

I actually thought about it, but then I knew I had only myself to blame because if I had been flossing as much as my dentist had kept trying to get me to do, I would have never been in that situation in the first place.

I kept going to him after that, and he would always apologize every time I went. He was a really good guy who has since retired or I would still be going to him today.
