Default Access internet on notebook through Blackberry?

Can I gain internet access on my notebook computer if it is hardwired through the usb port to a Blackberry phone? Will the screen images be normal or the shrunk, garbled size? I have Blackberry internet service through Cingular.

Thanks in advance.

Not positive, but you should be able to use the blackberry as a modem. I know that I can use my regular phone as a modem if I plug it into a laptop. Now, I don't know how to do it, but I know it can be done.

I've done it with my phone also. I'm not sure if the Blackberry can do it though. If you're in an area with the "3G" cell network the internet shouldn't be as slow as it was when I had done it (crawling speed).

ask Redneck Joe. I'm pretty sure he has a Blackberry and he's attached to both the laptop and his phone at the hip and wrist......

I can and do access THT with my Blackberry, but the screen size is puny. I was hoping to have a full notebook screen with the Blackberry as the "modem".

I dont know how I did it but you have to get it to recognize it as a modem first. I did this with my treo 650 when I had it..The screen was crappy for internet sites but I was able to access them easily.

You can do it...through a "tethered" connection.

However, Cingular has to add a feature to your account to make the tethering work, and this increases your unlimited data service on your Blackberry by about $30 a month.

My primary phone is on the old AT&T Wireless system and I have the $24.99 unlimited "mMode" data service. When I pop the SIM in an unlocked device (like a Treo 680) and tether it to the laptop, it works perfectly. Speed is faster than a phone line, but not earth shattering.

The fastest way - speedwise - is to look for a plan that will let you add a second data only line to your service and get a Broadband card. Just about every carrier has them, and are in the process of upgrading their network. I've used both the Cingular and Verizon cards. Verizon is further along in getting their entire network up to "3G" (EVDO) standards. Cingular, where they have the 3G network up and running, is faster though. And its not bad, even when it drops back to "EDGE" (2.5G). The plans, for unlimited data, should be in the neighborhood of $30-$40/month.
