Default Another School/College Choice Question

My sister's son got into Georgia Tech and University of Maryland. Which would you pick and why?

Depends what he wants to do. If he wants engineering, Go Tech...

GT is indeed a top tier engineering school.

UMD is a lot closer to salt water.

I'd say GaTech for engineering for sure...Neither for football.

Congrats - both great schools

I would consider other factors - cost distance - what the kid felt most comfortable in. Haven't been to either - One may be a more urban or city kid friendly campus - that may be important. And of course the PARENTS preferences!

These decisions seem so important right now but his education is what he makes of it. It ain't the hand you're dealt - its how you play the hand you're dealt.

Both are great engineering schools, it depends on what kind of college environment the kid would be most comfortable in. I'd suggest that he spend at least an overnight on each campus, that will help him make his choice. My son and daughter both choose their schools after overnights and both situations have worked out real well.

I would send him to Maryland unless he is going into engineering, in which case Georgia Tech.

Gee I dunno??? Which one has the cuter girls?

I liked the other thread where the one fella bragged about Univ. of Florida and berated FSU.

I though all you needed to get into Florida was a valid saltwater fishing license.......

My daughter is a junior at Wofford. (Same price as IVY but no one knows where it is) She picked it for the usual High School Kid reason.....Her friend was going there.

She could have gone to Clemson for next to nothing. (Her salt water license was already paid in full)

GA Tech has no girls to speak of. There are plenty around Atlanta though. I have never been to College Park, MD but am sure it is nothing like Atlanta. That may be a good thing unless he loves traffic jams. I would think a visit to both schools would make the desission easier.

If they moved Ga Tech to a college town it would be great. Since its in the middle of downtown Atlanta, I'd look elsewhere. I love Atlanta, but I just don't think its an appropriate environment for a real college and a real college experence.
