Default ZZ Top Concert Video

Well, I hate to turn this from a boating forum into a rock and roll Q&A, but does anybody have any knowledge of any footage and audio ever release from the Eliminator or Afterburner tour?

I saw them play a concert where both albums were the main focus of the stage set, and man oh man, was that a show to remember!

I would LOVE to see a DVD from that time period, but have never seen one. Have you?

As much as I love their music, seeing them in concert was a whole nother experience.

I usually laugh about 90% of the time while rocking out and enjoying their moves and fuzzy guitars!

I haven't seen them in several years, and while the new stuff leaves a lot to be desired, they still had a great stage show.

I saw ZZ Top's very first large venue concert! They backed Alice Cooper up in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens, my buddy and I sat 16 rows back dead center. Before the concert there was a lot of talk about who was this new band backing up A.C., no one had ever heard of them!

When the lights turned down low and the curtains opened we were greeted with 3 Marshall stacks side by side, 7-8' away was a Small set of cheap looking drums and another 3 Marshall stacks 7-8' away....it was all very Simple and SMALL, the drums weren't even on a platform, they were right on the stage. Then the lights dimmed again and three guys walked out supporting long beards and wearing tattered looking old suits, one carrying a guitar, another with drum sticks and the other had his bass in hand....the crowd was all dumb struck by this two bit sight!

Now I've seen probably close to a 100 of the world’s top bands in my time and I can say with complete certainty, that ZZ Top concert that night was the second best I've seen as far as GREAT MUSIC and RAW ENERGY goes! Led Zeppelin holds the #1 ranking in my books by far......I saw them in Seattle back in the summer of 79 or 1980.

That day in Toronto so many years ago ZZ Top played two full sets and seven encores.....ZZ Top literally blew the roof off the Gardens that night!!! It took Alice Cooper a full set and a half to win the crowd over to his music! A.C was doing his "Schools Out" tour or it might have been his "Billion Dollar Babies" tour.....I really don't remember which one it was, I've seen A.C. about five times now.

If you ever get a chance to go see ZZ Top, do it, they are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dayuuum! I sure would have loved to have seen Zeppelin!

The first concert I ever went to was ZZ Top when La Grange was hot! I hate to admit it, but I didn't know there were only three guys in that band! LOL that was the first time I got high on dopesmoke as I have honestly never smoked pot in my life! When the lights went down, the lighters started flamin'! I still equate some concert experiences every time I hear Skynyrd's, "That Smell", play!

I've seen ZZ Top more times than any other band, and I too have seen quite a few others of "The Day"! My favorite was the Eliminator / Afterburner tour when they were really cranking out some good stuff very close together as far as release dates on albums.

The set started as an old car complete with gauges when they opened with tunes from Eliminator. Once they got through several sets, they smoke came out, Billy and Dusty were strumming those fuzzy guitars, and they disappeared through doors in the bottom of the stage.

The music went spacey, and the set started to change as the instrument panel of a Space Shuttle dropped in to cover the gauges from the Eliminator stage! Up through the door comes Billy and Dusty with space-age guitars, and the Afterburner tunes started to rip!

I can't remember who opened for them, but we had great seats just a few rows back from center stage. When the Top hit the stage, everybody and I do mean EVERYBODY stood up in folding metal chairs to see the show! I sure was wishing everybody would sit back down once they got started, but that never happened!

Without a doubt the best show I have ever seen or heard, not to mention the laser lights which drew some very "interesting" things on the walls in front of the stage.

Man of man, all these kids with their rap crap have no clue what they missed out on!

I saw Billy Gibbons at a Houston restraunt a few months ago. Man that guy is starting to look old! Wasn't walking too easily either. Made me feel old since I grew up listening to them. They brought the house down as the closing night act at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo a few weeks ago though, they defintely still have it in them to Rock and Roll!!

LOL Hell son, the Reverend Willy G is old, so that's okay!

Good to hear they can still bring down the house!

I'm stuck just outside Knoxville, TN and the really good acts avoid Knoxville like the plague these days because of some issues with how much the city takes out of their pockets!

I can't remember specifics, but it sure does hurt everyone around here who would love to see some big acts back in town again.

Being a guitar player myself (read: playing AT it!) , I got a "ZZ TOP Greatest Hits" CD a while back. I recorded in on to a CASSETTE so I could listen to it in my '98 Jeep Cherokee (read: NO CD PLAYER!).

The FIRST time I listened to "My Head's In Mississippi" (pre-selecting what I was gonna' put on the cassette), I recorded it 6 times in a ROW to bypass the "rewind" - MAN, I LOVE that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had never heard it before then, but feel in love with the "gutsey" guitar sound on that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you listen to that one and DON'T tap your feet or bang your palms on your legs or a steering wheel, you're musically BRAIN-DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He$$ of a lot of music from only 3 guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"La Grange" is my other favorite!!!!!!!!!!!

BOTH are IMPOSSIBLE to listen to in a "NO WAKE" zone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never have seen 'em "live", but would jump at the chance if they ever got close enough to Richmond!

Regards,

"I'm shufflin' through Iraqi sand, but my head's in Mississippi"!

LOL, there has to be a G.I. Joe out there somewhere in Iraq who has sung that version!
