Default U.S. Chamber of Commerce calls for ending UE....

Parties over, time to go back to work......

"The disappointing jobs report makes it clear that paying people not to work is dampening what should be a stronger jobs market," U.S. Chamber of Commerce Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley said in a statement on Friday. "One step policymakers should take now is ending the $300 weekly supplemental unemployment benefit. Based on the Chamber’s analysis, the $300 benefit results in approximately one in four recipients taking home more in unemployment than they earned working."

The U.S. economy added much fewer jobs than expected in April, with employers increasing their payrolls by 266,000 jobs, well below the 1 million that economists expected, according to consensus data compiled by Bloomberg. The economy is still 8.2 million jobs short of its February 2020 pre-pandemic levels.

Just can't get those people back to their low paying jobs when you have that $300 a week tacked on to their unemployment.

"Low Paying?" There are many good paying jobs that are open. Many people would rather collect $650 a week (tax free!) and work side cash jobs and clear $1,000 a week with little effort. Or collect $650 a week (tax free!) and sleep in late instead every day instead of making $900 a week and have to show up. These jobs are not "low paying."
Businesses should not have to compete with the government for workers. Bad enough competing with your competition, but when you have a government with unlimited cash to spend no business can ever pay enough to overcome that.

I was just reading ziden is extending fed unemployment benefits at up to 320 PER WEEK thru.............Labor day.

Now could someone explain that to us? Everyone who wants the vaccine can now have it. Businesses are opening. WHY do we need to pay people not to work?

Before Feb 2020 some 250,000 we on unemployment. Now it's 16 million NOT COUNTING TEACHERS who they count as working because ...they are getting paid!!!

Great.....a paid summer vacation! The restaurant industry down here in FL are screaming for people to apply for work, hardly any applicants are showing up. Doesn't make sense. However, if I was young and was making a minimum wage I'd do the same thing if I was getting those kind of benefits. I don't even think they have to prove that they're applying for jobs now.

Almost all of the restaurants around our lake house are short staffed. They are allowed to be at full capacity now but one third to one half of the tables are empty because they do have enough people to cover them. At the liquor store I use the owner is the only one there for the same reason. He runs the register all day and restocks at night.

But they don’t have any teeth, so who cares. Just more noise lost in the wind.

Raise minimum to $15/hr and govt lifts the UE. Businesses want employees, then they’ll have to agree to the $15min.

chess.

Something else is going on here... it would appear from the results of all these "executive" actions that small business are the target of a determined effort to get a large segment of the workforce out of work and on the dole. Here in Michigan we cannot find labor and have heard over and over that it pays better to sit and collect unemployment. Doesn't matter if they were previously fired for cause, never qualified or any of that.Show up,sign up and ride. This business strategy cannot go on for long.
What's the real agenda?

starve out the remaining “small business” so the corporate overlords get the rest of the pie too.
(Tin foil hat too tight).
