Default no taste no smell sucks!

Heard about it of course, but really don't realize how bizarre until you cant do either.
What a weird little bug eh

Coffee, one of my simple pleasures- tastes like hot water soaked in cardboard. Cant smell anything. Even Vicks vapor rub i put on- nada

no appetite- food when i'm able tastes like an "approximation" my eyes are telling brain what it should be tasting like off memory i guess.

good news is I have lost 10 lbs

No. I figured my odds. its not fun but in the end just a weird little flu

And what is ironic, i caught from a good friend that had his first shot and we just assumed he was having a reaction from it when we spent the weekend with them.

When I had Covid in February, I didn't lose my smell until day 6. I didn't realize it until that morning when I was working on the boat changing out a fuel tank sending unit and couldn't smell any fuel even thou it was inches away. My loss of taste/smell lasted for 2-3 weeks. I know someone who still hasn't regained it after 6 months.

I saved a fair amount of $ since I couldn't tell the difference between a ribeye and a Bologna.

Most people get there sense of taste/smell back pretty quickly. But a friend of mine lost it in feb 2020 and it's still not back!

I believe my wife and I had Covid back in January of 2020. We both lost our taste and smell senses, wife got hers back after about ten days. I can taste most things, however I still cannot smell. If my coffee is too strong or sweet, I can taste it. If you put a cup of black coffee under my nose I would not be able to tell you if its water or coffee.

Be my luck I'd regain them halfway through.

I had Covid during Christmas and just starting to get my sense of smell back this week, and most things smell foul. I still cannot taste correctly either, just the sense of salt sweet sour etc but no real taste. Weird thing is it made my appetite increase for some reason. I'm glad I caught the virus and got it over with (49yo). The virus was no where near as bad as the flu, but definitely has some lingering effects.

I got the shot almost a month ago and have been sicker than hell for a week, finally went in to get a covid test and luckily it was negative but I found out I have a serious sinus infection. The doctor told me that they are seeing a lot of people with the covid virus that already had the shot. She told me the purpose of the vaccine was so that if and when you do catch covid it should be a minor case or you have no symptoms and it is to prevent hospitalizations.

Thats pretty much my experience but mine may have lingered a bit longer And even today it have some odd periods of weird taste perception. Yet my wife, who had it about simultaneously with me, did not lose her taste and smell. And I agree... it was one of the worst symptoms lingering afterwards.

True...but your chances of getting it are greatly reduced, and if you do, you most likely will not have a serious case. I wish I had gotten vaccinated earlier...COVID kicked my ass in late March and I am still having after-effects. Fully vaccinated now.
Let me guess...you are not taking the vaccine?

That's how it actually works for the vast majority of people. I know. Crazy concept.

Yes you can, but 95% less likely, and less severe. So seems, like that is actually how it works. Would the OP have caught it had he had the vaccine, who knows, but likely the symptoms would have been lessened in the 5% chance he did. Hope the smell and taste comes back. It does for most, but there are some where it is long term, which would suck big time.

The loss of taste and smell is brutal, everything tastes really salty or really sweet with no distinguishable flavor. Besides that aspect I had a fever for a day but feel completely fine.

Still wouldn’t have gotten the shot
It caught me- I felt like crap for a couple days

my brother and adult daughter both had terrible side effects for a couple days after getting the shot

my brother was in bed for 30 hours straight. These aren’t friends of friends or I heard about... actual family members.

Now all three of us are now immune. All felt like crap for a couple days. ??

Actually, none of you are immune. But the ones who got the shot have a lot less chance of getting other long hauler symptoms later.
