Is she spinning out? It looks like the cassette is the same range just one more gear but the front had a 3 by versus a 2 by. Does she need to go faster, two upfront is usually much preferred over three rings its much lighter and easier shifting. In fact, on a mtb a one by is preferred by most it would be hard to find a two by in any higher end bike I didnt even know they made three rings still on a major brand like trek

You might need a new front derailer but its possible if you ask a shop they could change to three rings up front? Im not sure, Id encourage her to get used to the more efficient shifting if shes not spinning out

What about a 2022 Marlin 4? Looks like they are 3x7. Doesn't seem like much is different except 80 mm instead of 100 mm fork.

It's just an entry level aluminum hardtail. They're all the same pretty much and are mostly made by Giant anyway. Go look at Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, REI, whatever else in that price range.

Why the love for Trek? They are fine bikes, maybe a little over rated. 1x for mtbs is where its at. Gearing is an easy switch. Now finding any bikes (or components), may be problematic.

Going to be slim pickings for a bit. Frame geometry is different by brand. If she likes trek, have her try Scott. Otherwise maybe a different model trek.

Are you on Facebook? There are several Central Florida groups that are cycling related, and several cycle buy and sell groups. I'm on all of them and I ride with several local shops. If she's not tied to the Marlin, Adrenaline up in Mount Dora has a good bit of inventory as does Kyle's downtown. I'm riding with Adrenaline tomorrow night if you want me to ask about something comparable. Maybe one of the Norco's? I also talk to Kyle frequently and they carry Giant, Liv and Kona.

I'll take a look around the Adrenaline shop tomorrow night. I may be swinging by Kyle's on Saturday too.

I have Scott Scale 900 RC and 1 x 12 is awesome!!!! I came from a 3 x 8 and raced that bike a lot, spent 95% of the time in middle chain ring so basically a 8 speed. I use all 12 gears on my Scott every time I go to the single track
My Scott is 29er and coming from 26", it took me a couple minutes to fall in love how easily 29" rolls over roots and rocks, it is not as quick through the twisty turns as my 26" but for this 62 yo rider I'm a huge fan of 29ers.
