Default Speeding Ticket!!!

I just got an 86 in a 70 in South Carolina. I live in Georgia with a Georgia liscense. My question is that Georgia isn't a member or something that the police use to report out of state traffic violations. Does this mean that since the ticket is in SC, the points will or won't show up on my Driver's license???

Not sure, but I tried that game in college when I got a ticket in Maryland (I had a Florida license). When I got home for spring break, I found a suspension notice waiting for me in the mail. Took three days of my spring break to clean the mess up. Not worth it. Just get a lawyer.

Tickets in Other States
In general most US states belong to the Nonresident Violator Compact of 1977. This means that speeding tickets received out of your home state will be reported back to your home state and included on your record for drivers license and insurance points.

However there are certain states that do not put out of state traffic tickets on your record and others that will only enter speeding tickets that are over a certain mph above the speed limit.

Kansas, Wyoming, Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa, and South Dakota will not put a speeding ticket on record unless it is 10 or more mph over the limit. Georgia will not enter speeding tickets unless they are more than 14 mph over the limit. New York and Colorado will not enter out of state speeding tickets at all unless they are serious violations like reckless. Michigan also has special rules about out of state tickets.

I've ben doin my research. Apparently this is saying that if it is under 14 mph I'm ok. The cop said send in money instead of going to court and they will drop it to me doing under 10 mph over the limit.

Not sure about down south but in NJ, you have to appear and if you plead guilty to 9MPH over the limit, most times they will accept that and be fined accordingly.

You should contact the prosecutor in the town/city where the citation was written. Good luck.

Man I'm hoping it won't be nothing big. In Ga you can only get 4 points on your license if you are under 21 and I have 3

You kind'a remind me of me when I was you age, but I was a lot worse......all I did was work to pay the man for traffic violations....I was always loosing my license for no points .

CURSE CONTROL....that's what has saved my license, curse control and a seriously good audio system!
Don't leave things to the last moment, plan on getting to your destination well a head of time.......then you don't have to speed to get there!

Pay your ticket! I don't believe it gets counted as points in your state. When I got a ticket in Md they only contacted NY because I didn't pay! They have recipricol agreements to revoke licenses for the sole purpose of COLLECTING FINES!

I never had a boat back when I was your age, just used Dad's car topper. My vise was putting drag cars on the road. If I wasn't driving a 10 second or less car it was one that did well over 150 mph.......crips I was on a first name bases with the staff down at the license bureau.

That cop is a liar. It is not up to the cop to make that decision. Anything the state is or isn't going to do or report will be decided by the state's legislature. There is no way on this planet a state is going to report something to a database that is not true. They are NOT going to report you doing under 10mph if you where cited for doing 16mph over.

If you believe that cop I have a bridge to sell you.

Pay the dam ticket as soon as possable. Afew years ago I got a ticket in Delawere paid it the next day. It never showed up on my Pa. DMV report. The delaware state cop
told me that if paid within 10 days they do not report it to other states. Try it maybe it works in other states.

I'd save some time for a Saturday at traffic school to ditch those points.

Same thing happened to me in VA when I was in college. Only way to get a break was the all day course which brought me from 10 pts. to 7 pts. and let me keep my license. (I got popped for "reckless driving" on an empty, dry, I-95 for 76 in a 55 -- guess that's what happens to college kids on the way to FL with NY plates -- that was a 6 spot in itself.)

See if GA makes the same accommodations.

Got a ticket here in NC for 16 over. I called the DA's olffice and they suggested that I send in the money with a note I was pleading guilty to 10 over. Went on my record as 10 over. Not sure why the cop is necessarily a liar.

He may have been telling you what is routinely done, but it really isn tup to him in the end, its up to the court, so you will be taking a chance, but he may well be right.

Why not just show up to court? That way you can plead/apologize/beg for mercy, which is usually given in traffic court.

I'm looking at the ticket now and it says that it is $180 and four points. However if I pay before court it is $76.50 and 2points

Pay it now and consider it a learning experience. I live in SC, and they are cracking down on speeders on the interstates here. Rule of thumb is to keep it under 80 in a 70 MPH zone and they won't even give you a second look.

I just realized that no points are added to a license in Ga if it is 14mph and under. I will therefore make DANG sure that this half everything crap that this policeman said is true. If not it's off to court.
