Default American Staffordshire Terrier

The Wife and I dog sit for friends and family. We have my Stepson's and daughter in law's dog staying with us for a couple months. She's an American Staffordshire Terrier. Color is exactly identical to the picture on this website: "American Staffordshire Terrier Dog Breed Information" https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/ameri...shire-terrier/

Absolutely love this dog. Smart, gentle, well trained and loves affection. Which dogs get plenty of when they stay with us.

Anyone on here have one?

Let's just get this out of the way....

Pit bulls should be outlawed and made extinct from this planet.

Is that what you were fishing for?

Nope. And it's not a pit bull.

Just wondering if anyone out there has one and what their experience has been with the breed.

I'll bite...pit bull pun intended; saying it isn't a pit bull is like saying it's not whiskey, its bourbon.

My son and his GF have two, most loving dogs I have met. They are characters, and love to sleep with people. They love the pool too.

We have one, wouldn’t exactly call her smart, but she is an attention whore. When were out walking her, it doesn’t matter how many people or how many dogs they have with them, she lays down and rolls over on her back.....she loves her belly rubs.

We had one we adopted (our first ever dog and she was just 8 months old when we got her), sweetest dog in the world, yes- she loved to jump off the diving board and swim in the pool. We had her for 13 years, had to put her down 4 years ago, as she was going downhill pretty quick, hardest thing we ever had to do. With any dog, it's how you bring them up and treat them- it's all the old boomers on here saying this breed and pits are bad. If you tie a dog up to a tree in the back yard with a chain and leave it out there all year long and treat it like $%#t- yeah-you're going to have a %$#@ed up dog that will rip people's faces off and attack people if it gets free.

So, I was born in '47..that qualifies me as the type who would tie a dog to a tree and leave it out there all year long?

This big girl was the love of my life for nine years, until a blood disease had us put her down. Way too early. I'm pretty sure she qualifies as the type of dog you're talking about.

Talk about clueless......

Admit, it takes me a minute or two before I trust them when I meet them. So far every one I have met has been sweet as they come.

Just adopted one that got dropped off to my gf's animal hospital. She's breathed new life back into my 12 year old australian shepherd, and she's petrified of the cats.

I have owned 3 " pitbull mixes". I would NEVER own any other type of dog. They are the sweetest most loving dogs I could ever imagine. Loyal beyond belief. All 3 had terrible back stories that would scare the average dog owner away. Treat them with love and respect and you get it back from these animals.

I rescued an AMSTAFF that was found out in the country on the side of the road--in a ditch. He was very easy to house train, and we had him 9 years. Harley was the sweetest thing to people, but he'd get hysterical at the sight of another dog. He could go from asleep to 110% in about 1.5 seconds.

We lived in an area where the yards were over 2 acres--in the country. Harley couldn't be let out of the house or he'd disappear. And pit bulls are not welcome in others' yards. So we had to walk Harley on a leash 24/7. I traveled, and my wife's rainy nights were miserable.

Although we loved our AMSTAFF, I would never have another. Now we have a rottweiler, and older cat and two young kitties. We get tired of paying for kennels for the dog when we travel in retirement. The cats can take care of themselves, however. When the dog is gone, we'll be though with dogs.

Can’t keep her off my lap. Loves attention and other dogs. Will chase squirrels all day.

They are actually considered a pit bull breed. pit bull is both a generic term referring to a number of similar breeds and a specific breed as in american pit bull terrier. No hate against pit bulls here, but it is considered to be a pit bull and as such has negative connotations to some as well as potential enhanced insurance, rent and liability implications.
