Default Ambulance Chaser TV Ads

[rant on]

I think that all those personal injury/ambulance chaser TV ads where some client says "Stan got me $250,000" they should also be required to explicitly state what the attorney fees and expenses were and the net amount.

That is all.

[rant off]

Be glad you don't have to see this guy every 5 minutes. Has made a 30 year career suing churches over child abuses. Which may be fine and necessary, but in NY thanks to the new law they passed, you can't get away from his endless attempts to drum up business. And whatever the merits of his cases, if you saw him and heard him talk for 30 seconds you would not let him within a mile of your children.

Here is our local ambulance chaser, LOL he is on every 10 minutes. Hard to understand how he can spend so much on advertising. Must be one hell of a lot of lawsuits.

Each state's ethical rules dictate what is considered a "reasonable" fee. In Florida it is generally 33 percent prior to litigation, 40 percent after. Other expenses can come out of the victim's share. Most commonly medical bills, and costs to pursue litigation, which can be very small or very large. It is used to be common for Dr's to require the lawyer promise pay to the Dr. his fee out of the victim's share prior to releasing medical records to the attorney. I never really practiced personal injury work, but have friends that do, in my experience, the best quality PI lawyers didn't advertise, The advertisements seemed to bring in the bottom feeder cases, the soft tissue rear end collision type case. Of course it is not a bottom feeder if it is your neck that hurts.

A big misconception is the number of ads equals the number of lawyers, and that it is a high paid area. While a few probably do very well. I knew transactional lawyers that would laugh at what their PI friends had made in a year. The largest area of lawsuits is contractual , followed by domestic, tort (personal injury) litigation is a very small amount of lawsuits, but you would not guess that by watching TV, and while you can trash the PI lawyers, I had an insurance adjustor meet a client in the ER who go hit by a bus in a crosswalk..... got her to sign a release for $5,000 while she was still bleeding. Didn't even cover the ambulance ride.

Unfortunately they are needed .. insurance companies are the real shitbags...all they do is push paper to leverage the payout....

Remember insurance companies spawned these shitbags...a necessary evil...only because of them...if you didn't know....

I understand the blowback about the Op's comments but let me give y'all a real life story.

Son DIL and 6 month granddaughter came to visit us on Memorial day weekend about 4 years ago. On the way home they were T-boned on a 4 lane divided hiway in their 4 door Toyota Tundra on the drivers side. Flipped over a couple times and fourtunatly all survived with minor injuries. 2 younguns around 20 caused the accident. Truck totaled, everyone to the hospital on our side for observation/checkup. Guy gave the po po an insurance card but later it was discovered bogus. So now Son owes $$ for ambulance, towing, Toyota was totaled BTW, all kind hospital bills for the 6 month year olds tests.

Fast forward I call an ambulance chaser from TV. Tell him the story and he told me he could tell by my tone and concern I was not looking for multiple $$$. He took the case and got my son his money back and nothing more. So until you deal with these guys on a personal level don't put them all in one basket. And yes I know there are some bad ones.

Hell, we have to deal the 1-800-ACCIDENT guy that is on every other commercial.
He is the slinky I would like to push down a flight of stairs.

It's 50% plus expenses. They are shady AF. I had a run in with one of them before. The guy from the lawyers office was trying to convince me that I was in more pain than I actually was. They sent me to some shady chiropractor in the hood who was pretty much coaching me on where things hurt. Does it hurt here, no, are you sure let me press here again wink wink. I needed a shower after dealing with them.

In Arizona we have "The husband and wife law team" , they do the talking in their ads, her voice is screechy and
very annoying, I turn the volume down,
streaming TV is too slow to surf.

Outside of personal injury lawyers, none of the good ones advertise. At all.

For me, it is not so much the job attorneys do, it is the slimy way some of them target the marginal parts of society or some frivolous company misdeed.

I am all for attorneys trying to right a wrong. I would be the first one in line if my family was harmed by real negligence. It is all about them making money.

As a society, we all pay for them to line their pockets with money that is dubiously earned off the backs of others.
