Pretty much the same thing and I probably should not have said it.

I think the correct term is "Bless your little heart!"

I have no idea of the situation and circumstances and I'm the last to think negative of the police, they have a SHYTE job and THANK GOD we have them. BUT I simply can't imagine ANY circumstances where having a 9yr old girl, handcuffed in the backseat of a squad justify then using pepper spray on her???
Forgive me if they replied above but I'd like to hear from the THT members themselves who are LEOs and what their opinion of that vid is???
Why would they respond? You and I disagree on this one, but no big deal. Let's say a LEO posts his/her opinion, either justifying what the cops did, condemning it, or somewhere in the middle. Regardless of which path the LEO chose to opine, there is absolutely no opinion that a LEO could voice that would not be met with anger and hatred. Why bother?

Having seen firsthand how difficult it is to restrain a combative child, it's not as easy as keyboard commandos make it sound. I've seen adults get spit on, bitten on the nose and ears, poked in the eye, and kicked. Would you rather he hauled opff and smacked her across the face? When attempts to de-escalate have failed, at some point you take action to quickly END it. If the cop used brute force and overpowered her, he'd get crucified! If they tried to shove her feet in and quickly shut the door, they could accidentally break her ankle if she kicked back out again. It's not like she yelled and they immediately peppered her. Regardless of it they waited one minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes, someone one here would disagree with their actions.

I don't think anyone is ready to congratulate those officers and give them a pat on the back. No one is happy (I don't think) that she got sprayed. But out of the thousands and thousands of police interactions every day, they are not going to each be handled perfectly. But to want them to lose their jobs over it?

The female cop was calmer. When two parents are angry at their child, one parent is always calmer than the other one. That's human nature as we're all a little different. Maybe the female office was only recently on scene, and hadn't been battling with the kid for 30 minutes. We don't know. I also didn't see her [the female cop] say "put the spray away - we don't need it". It wasn't impulsive, like getting kicked and then immediately retaliating with spray.

I have yet to hear a well thought out counter for how they could quickly and safely end this. Talking wasn't working. They couldn't shut the door. What exactly should they have done, and would you have thought about that solution without having time to review the situation after the fact?
