whatever the child said after being cuffed and placed in a cruiser is completely irrelevant. 9. NINE. holy smokes.

get those cops off the street.
Get these low life thugs out of our country. People like her and her mother create these situations; if they didn't behave like this no one would have to do anything.

Look at who spawned the child and learned behavior.

People should have to pass a test, credit score, and other criteria similar to a gun permit prior to pregnancy.

Cops are wrong?-?... although I've never walked in there shoes.....

It’s a good thing I’m not LEO. I’d have a gas powered back pack pepper spraying rig on full power if I had to deal with stuff like this every day.

But these days people don't want to teach kids respect and accountability....it's too bad.
these days police do not show respect and have no accountability.

BS

this is a nine year old child. not a teen, not a young adult, not a young woman. a child. who is already cuffed and in the back of the car.

figure it the phuck out. pepper spray in the back of the car is the solution?? GTFOH.

If this child was talking about suicide, the cops should restrain her with the minimum force necessary and take her to the hospital for psychological consult or have EMS do it. Pepper spray should have never come into the equation. If she was kicking, restrain her legs and belt her in. If 5 cops are unable to restrain a combative 9 year old in a less invasive way without pepper spray, while she was already in the vehicle, then they should not be cops.

nobody wants to take accountability for their actions. the kid and mom were out of control. if the cops had shot them, people would cry "just use the taser". if they tased them, people would say "just use pepper spray". when they use pepper spray, they say, "just shove her in". if they shove her in.....

it doesn't stop. everything a cop does these days, especially in "certain" situations is a lose/lose.

I fully expect that if I act like a wild lunatic with a cop, im going to get forcefully controlled. that's why I don't act like a wild lunatic and why I don't have problems...

I have only seen what was in the link so I am sure there is a lot more to the story. But in the absence of that, I have to agree with the above. To me, this was a social services matter not a police one. Sure, have the cops there in case the child does get violent but let DFACS and the folks with the straight jackets handle it.
Police are being asked to do more & more that falls outside of what most people would think is in their job description. No win situation for them.

Only thing I’ll say is tell the people calling the police to call a mental health care person instead of the police. People calling the wrong agency to begin with. The one lady in the story knew her kid had mental health issues and still chose to call the police and then demand they call the health care people. Sorry but if you know your kid is mental call the right people to get the response you want, police aren’t trained to be mental health experts. Detain, take to hospital, let hospital deal with, that’s the police method.

In four years that 9 year old will be on video climbing over a McDonalds counter screaming like a monkey punching employees because her French fries are cold

The kid was feral and needed tranquilizer darts. It’s a lose/lose for anyone going into that situation. How can anyone work with a family situation like that and expect a good outcome? When you go to a shit show there’s gonna be some spatter.

The mom is trash. She has raised her kid to be trash. The trash kid refused to comply with police.

But here's what happened in that moment: Two police officers in the car, and 3 or 4 outside the car could not get a 9 year old girl to put her legs into the car without using pepper spray. I remember when I had 9 year olds and they would sometimes be inconsolable and uncooperative because 9 year olds brains can't always do adult stuff. I never had to pepper spray any of my kids. I've never had a friend or neighbor, or teacher, or anybody else I've ever known who had to pepper spray a 9 year old to control her. This made the news because there aren't any other cops who have ever needed to do this either.

The female cop was fine. She was talking calmly, ensured the little girl that they would find her father, and was deescalating by just using a little human emotional intelligence. The male cop wasn't capable of that and can't be a cop anymore.

The kid was hysterical, probably from the living conditions with mom, based solely on snippet of mom. How often do you hear ghetto kids wanting to be with dad? I would say pepper spray was not appropriate for a hysterical 9yo.

Are we as a country, and the beloved media, going to publicize every bad decision by one officer, out of the 10's of thousands of good decisions by good officers? No wonder the police, or anyone else in authority, are not respected anymore. This country is a perfect example of the 'tail wagging the dog'.
