Boxers fracture on 12/28. Hand has been in a cast ever since then. This thing is driving me crazy. Has anyone ever taken a cast off a week and a half early?

Wifey works in an ortho office. It’s surprising the number of folks who don’t heed the doc’s directions that end up coming back later on with injury complications. Best advice is to do your time and then the rehab. I just did four months in a boot and am going through extended rehab for an Achilles tear. Sucks but it must be so. Good luck!

Tried it out using it for your pimp hand needs? I think the bobble head would be a good one to test it out on initially.

Had the same cast years ago, I did the same thing as you want to do. But I used a sheet metal snips, I cut it from the wrist to the hand part of the cast with one continuous cut. i was able to slide my hand out but I was also able to put it back in at night as it kept its shape. LOL how was the guy you punched?

I did and it didn't end well. Was sore weeks later got xrays and it showed it was still fractured. Was told by the Dr., in no uncertain terms that if I didn't follow the directions and it didn't heel there was a very good chance they'd have to operate and put pins or rods in it. Mine was a broken radius just above the wrist

Yup..Same cast, actually broke two bones in my left hand. Took the cast off maybe 5 days early. I was 15, I'm 48 now and haven't had any problems. If I had the same break at 48, I would leave it on til the doc took it off.

That being said, I used sheet metal shears to cut it off. I was able break the cast at the elbow then I was able to get the shears in between and started cutting.

had the same break. took the cast off about 10-12 days early. I did wrap it with an ace bandage to keep some of the movement down.
I wound up rebreaking it 6 months later in a car accident. took that one off early as well. I didn't have ins back than so saving doc fees was important. that was 20+ years ago and the hand works and feels fine.

Nope, from a broken ankle. The question posed was "Has anyone ever taken a cast off a week and a half early?", if he had said "this kind of cast" I'd have nothing to contribute.
