Going down here the first week of April and am looking for suggestions for fishing and whats in season. Looking for food spots as well or just good advice since we are splitting a vacation coming from a all inclusive in Playa Mujeres for the first 4 days and going to the island non all inclusive to try to get a better Mexico experience. I have fished several times down in Puerto Aventuras and it has always been amazing but I'm actually looking to do more bottom fishing or maybe even try spear fishing since I'm with the wife. Not wanting to drag baits all day. Any suggestions are appreciated especially if we can split charters with other couples and not have to buy the boat for the day for only 2 spots. Thanks

I don’t have any advice about fishing but; frozen mojito from the Joint, ceviche anywhere on island, rent a golf cart and drive around. Lots of little “open air” bars to stop for a drink and people watch for a bit, then move on to the next.

call Anthony who owns KEEN M fishing- he'll take great care of you. He has a fleet of boats. He's an American and also owns a hotel. great guy- and he's friends with Guy Harvey.
great restaurants:
Madera Food and Art (across from the beach)
Taqueria El Cachirul was amazing local hole in the wall place with cheap and delicious tacos etc
for a great day adventure: GARRAFON REEF and BEACH CLUB

The absolute best taco spot is called Tonichos. It’s impossible to find and you will not be disappointed. South end of island. just tell the cab driver Tonichos. Should cost 5$ to get there from the north end.

We hung out at this place a few times. I was there during swine flu lol. Stayed on a friends 68 Viking. Had a lot of fun. It was a windy week though so we didn’t leave the dock.
everyone was friendly. He had locals take care of the boat daily as he stayed for a few months in the winter.

. Kinda cool if you like sunrises. there’s a spot that’s the easternmost point in Mexico.

Supposed to head down there the end of Feb but rethinking that with the travel restrictions. I am not keen on spending that much time in Mexico

we weren’t getting good info, Mexican USA Today was about 2 pages at the time.
anyway we decided to fly back a few days early. His crew brought the boat later. We heard reports they might close key west port entry etc. and just felt we might as well get out of town while we had the chance. The other concern was what if we get half way to key west and someone got sick. Goto Cuba? Lol. Flew home with ripped up rags on our faces. One boat on the dock was worried. He was foreign flag I forget why. But he took off in the middle of the night. Didn’t want to risk not getting into the keys.
we did have a blast. I’d love to go back.
