Default Ammo is the new Toilet Paper

^That was a quote from Jason Hornady.

I thought this article was a good read. I was curious why this round of ammo shortage has been so bad. Honestly, I never through it recovered from Obama's first term, but it's worse than bad now. I was wondering if it was an issue with raw materials like it was in the 90s. Basically, ammo manufacturers are calling it a perfect storm of events.... Walmart to stop selling ammo, the run in Virginia to cancel the second amendment, Remmington shutdown, Covid, Civil unrest, Election results. Hornady claims they are working around the clock. I'm still not entirely convinced they are just not re-investing in the operations to produce more and are synthetically adding to the demand. But here is the article to form your own opinion...

Interesting to hear from the source.

Is Wal-Mart not selling shotgun shells as well now? My store is dry every time I check. I was able to buy a single box before Christmas, but nothing since...

I went to Walmart early this morning to try and get lucky. One box of 20 ga target shells is all they had. Crazy world we live in

Now that my fellow Georgian's acted stupidly at the polls, it's only going to get worse.

Ordered some 00 buckshot this week. Next to impossible to find. At least not at acceptable prices. Ended up buying some brand I've never heard of before. Bought an extra 10 rds so I can take it to the range and try it out.

Well, if ammo is the new toilet paper, I envision some confused proctologists in 2021. Now I wish I had kept my big bore stuff.

I have a friend in California that tells me you can only buy ammo out there for a gun you have registered, and the amount is severely limited. I've not tried to verify. A lot of people are stocking up for certain.

Supply and demand and not going away for some time. And the so called crazies with tens of thousands of rounds are laughing. I don't need ammo since I lost them all in a boating accident.

If wanting ammo (guns) for civil unrest for home or auto, shotguns and shells are readily available. Georgia Arms has .45 ACP. Or, buy a M1 Carbine. Plenty of ammo available. Just have to adapt.

I disagree. Not 00 buckshot anyway. There's very little available and what is out there is some off the wall brand.

If dumbass joe biden ends online sales of ammo, every store will be full of ammo. At least that's my positive thinking

I bought some Sterling. Hasn't arrived yet. Never shot it before. Looking forward to firing some test rounds. You ever try it?

The biggest problem is being told you can't buy something. That makes people want it even more. It's really dumb to think that having 10K rounds of anything is going to do you any good if the shit really hits the fan. Unless you live on a compound with a bunch of other people, you'll just be supplying ammo for the folks who took you out.

I think it's BS. Manufacturers are taking advantage of a "crisis" and inflating costs and creating a shortage. Why is ammo different than any other product that was able to catch back up with demand/supply? Meanwhile, I spent too much time trying to find .410 yesterday...

Yep. It seems fine Only shot a few rounds. I also got some Wolf for Christmas and it's kinda dirty but can't be too picky. I did get 3 cases of Aquila 7 1/2 target shells that weren't too bad of a price. I think they were about $80 a case. i never thought I'd say $8 per box wasn't a bad price.

Another thing adding to the shortage that nobody is talking about is all of the new gun owners. With everything that went down in 2020, people that otherwise had never owned or thought about buying a gun did so. In fact, around 5 million people did this. They needed ammo. The ones getting a CCW had to buy enough to practice for the shooting proficiency part of the test. The rest of us were socking up on what we had and several more were adding new guns to their collection. The new stuff needs bulk ammo. It really compounded the problem.

A large part of the shortage has to do with the 5 million first time gun owners in 2020.
