Default Who's done Kennedy Space Center?

Since we're having this frigid 60 degree weather, I think Monday might be a good day to go check out the space center....

Any advice from those who have been there?
Appreciate it...

It's been a few years since I've done that place.....only advice I can think of is to take the camera!

I visited the SC back in the Apollo era.....I doubt much has changed.

The VAB was breath taking back then....of course I was a bit younger in '69 so maybe it will not seem as large today.

It a good trip for a day- but do not plan a whole vacation trip around it. A lot of the stuff is outdated. If you are into the history of the space program, then you will enjoy it. I was born on the day they stepped on the moon, so my family enjoyed it, we also went just after the Columbia incident as well, got that experience at the same time. Quite an education for my eldest child (who was 5 at the time).

One of those things that I recommend to out of town friends who are staying in Orlando for a week for the parks- recommend that take a day to drive over to KSC, to take a break from the Disney chaos.

Actually, some things have changed. KSC now has an astronaut for the day appearance whereby one of the astronauts has a picture and autograph session with visitors. Before, you had to be really lucky to see Buzz Aldrin or Jim Lovell walking around. This is really cool! You're not going to see Buzz Aldrin or Jim Lovell, but they are legitimately in the space program and some have been in space.

On the downside, it is much tougher to view a launch nowadays. Before Challenger in 1987, visitors could actually be very close to the families of the astronauts. Obviously, they sequester family members during launches now.

Afishinado, drive up the coast on A1A from Stuart if you go. You'll cross Sebastian inlet, go thru Cocoa Beach up to port Canaveral, then over to US1 north to the entrance. It's worth seeing if you haven't done it. One the way back, take US1 south, stop at Mel Fishers treasure museum in Sebastian, then have dinner at Captain Hirams on the water. Nice day trip.

Ahhhh, A1A. What I'd give to be driving on that road today instead of the NJ Turnpike!

I'd pick Conchy Joe's for dinner, though.
