Default iTunes/Rhapsody and the like....

I just purchased a new Macbook and am looking for the best way to manager my music collection and download/listen to music using the laptop connected to my home stereo. I don't have an iPod brand mp3 player yet so I am unsure of iTunes as I know it will only support the iPod. Rhapsody caught my eye and I wanted to see if anyone had experience with it specifically or could recommend other sites to download and listen to music. Thanks.....MO

the hands down most seamless way to do this is with a Mac/itunes/ipod combo..yes there are others that are chaeper, but not seamless...I suggest a ipod nano and a cord to connect to your home stereo. Burn your CD collection to your itunes library and enjoy. there are many products sold now that will give you remote control capability for the ipod for home use...

Glen,

Thanks and I thought that might be the best way to go. I guess I'll just have to pony up a few more $$'s....Mark

Get a apple express base station......streams itunes over your wireless network to your stereo...just plugs into wall and has an audio and optical output for music for your stereo. Also acts as a base station for wireless and has an ethernet port as well as a USB port for printing.

AppleTV is also soon available and does most of that, plus video...

I believe if you install iApple’s Quicktime player on your laptop it also installs an imbedded iTunes with it, no choice. Doen’t make sense to take an application that is broadly used (Quicktime) by many and embed an application (iTunes) that has a very narrow user base. I don’t think iTunes is just for iPods, I think it works with any mp3 player.

I don’t subscribe or purchase mp3s online and I have no need for the QuickTime player so I do not have iTunes or the like, never used it, so I don't know for sure.

Question for iTunes users: does iTunes limit your ability to transport the mp3 that you paid for to other computers or non-iPod mp3 players?

Go ahead get an ipod you won’t regret it. Real nifty set-up. I have the 30GB video that holds 7,500 songs, I have 4,850 songs on it now from my CDs and Cassetts. Easy transfer.

Sorry fellas, I tunes will only transfer music to the ipod, not other MP3 players.

Have been an Apple Mac fan since 1985 and an Apple stock holder, so buy lots of Apple products so I can get rich.

Just wait until you get your hands on an Apple iphone in June, gonna blow your mind.

I did get the Express Base Station and the Base station with music capabilities so I can stream music to my wave radio. I was just hoping that since I just laid out all that moolah on the laptop and various accoutrements that I might be able to use my existing Creative brand mp3 player. I will have to look into a couple of Ipods for the Admiral and myself. Thanks for the input....M

What ever you do, place all of your music on a separate directory so you may easily back up your music. Personally I prefer Itunes.

Like a flash drive?

A flash drive will eventually be too small. Either buy a western Digital external hard drive, or get the housing and make one. Then you copy all of your music, and in fact your financial/ important records to the external. Then you can use it as a back up. THis will connect via a USB or Firewire.

On your computer, make a music directory to place all your music there. It will be easier to backup.

Glen E, Thanks for all the info I knew you were savvy in this area looking at your past posts! Can you direct me to an external drive that would work well with my MacBook? Does it plug into one of my open USB ports or do I need to get additional hardware?

Thanks, Mark
