Why are (bass) fishermen jerks?
#1

I’m aware that most of you fish offshore, but maybe you all have run into the same things. Why are there so many a**hole bass fishermen out there?
The other day, I was fishing from the kayak on a lake. Most of the fish were super deep, so I was drifting a deeper area dragging a lure and casting up at the bank picking off a few shallow fish here and there. I come around a bend and there is a bass boat moving up wind towards me doing the same thing. I don’t know who had the right of way. All I know is that I was drifting with the wind and they had a trolling motor as well as their big motor. These guys start cussing me as I get closer obviously irritated that I already fished the waters that they were wanting to fish. They mouthed off something like “I don’t know why these kayaks need to be on these lakes. Aren’t there smaller lakes nearby that is better suited for you?” Oh yeah, one guy even asked why I wasn’t working that day (it was a Wednesday and I took off work). He said that he was a vet and that he deserved the right of way. WTF?!
I can’t help but notice that there are more and more tournaments and the waters are getting awfully crowded with a**holes. What say you?

I wonder if you took away the tournaments and the YouTube videos, how many would still fish?
I fish solely for the recreation. Getting out on the water in nature and having some peace and quiet. If I don’t catch a fish, oh well. It’s still time we’ll spent. Some of these guys treat it like a personal slight if they don’t catch anything.

You should catch one in front of them and toss it in the cooler. That would really get these guys holier than thou.
And for fun of poking at them, because it's in the name already for bass. It is like their own personal acronym, a bunch of a$$es.

yep, I get the same reaction some times. funny thing is I have a boat, I just prefer to fish out of my kayak or my canoe.
I do enjoy telling them the fish are really biting "right up that channel there" knowing full well their boat can't get up there but I can.

I have the utmost respect for vets, especially combat vets, but it just irks me when they play the "Vet" card for something totally unrelated.
It ain't just bass fishermen. Try trolling hispanics off Cape Lookout and watch the frenzy the dingbatters get into when they see fish breaking. Worse than Walmart shoppers trying to find a parking spot.
BTW, the saltine cracker trick works pretty good.

I think that the big thing that sets them apart is that their boats suck for pretty much anything other than fishing, or hauling ass place to place. Different mindset of being on the water. Not much different than the offshore guys that strictly use their boat to fish, and consider other purposes for boating undesirable. Key thing there is they get out of inland waters and there is more room to spread out off shore. In shore and on the lakes there are all variety of activities other than fishing going on, but the fishing only guys often don't get or understand the fun in those other activities.
That said, many of the casual tournament guys are some of the nicest folks you will meet. There are a few small groups that run tournaments on our lake, and they have clearing the ramps down to a science, and recognize that when they are fishing weekends they won't be the only ones on the lake. Coolest thing I've seen is there are a few old guys that fish with them that have to be in their late 70's or early 80's. Slowest boat in the bunch (alluminum bass tracker or similar), but put fish in the boat. Still get around fine, but loading a boat can't be the safest activity for them. Watched at the end of a tournament last summer the old guys came in and docked. Tossed their keys to one of the younger guys, and they loaded their boat for them. Met them at the bar (ramp at a marina with a bar/restaurant) for a beer a few min later. Whole time the old guys were joking about being decrepit old men that might break a hip or something.

It’s funny that you say that about the cooler. I took my buddy out on the pontoon one day and there was a bass tournament going on. We were just drifting around for white bass. We had a cooler that we tossed our bait into during the day. At the end of our trip, we had that cooler sitting next to the truck while we were loading up. The tournament crew were walking down to see the tally for the day. They all walked past us when we were getting around. Every single one of them looked in our cooler (sitting on the ground with the lid open). I know for a fact that they were looking to see if we were taking home any of their precious bass. Lol

I used to fish the upper chessie just about daily - boat was in the water 3/1 and out 11/31. Fish all spring and fall - sandbar all summer...
I didn't own the water - but would watch groups come and go all year that thought they did..
First would be the striper army...
Then the bassholes would show up...
Then the rec boaters...
Then the jet skis/ski boats
Then the go fasts...
The bassholes were hands down the worst. Not even a close competition.
