Are bass fisherman jerks?
Or are jerks bass fishermen?

It's really the same with anything where there's magazines printed.......or youtube today...... People see something in a media and want to be like it.. So they emulate it......buy the $90,000 bass boat, and they put the stickers on their truck, and they put the patches on their jacket.... And they think everybody thinks they're cool...... When most people just think what a douche.

My dinky aluminum Lowe w/Merc 50 is all I have, and my wife and I frequent a large lake that attracts the DC crowd. The fishermen all seem to be respectful of one another and get along just fine, though the bass tournament folks (wife calls them "frantic fishermen") can be annoying with how fast they come into and leave coves. But for the most part they give us a wide berth. By far the worst are the ski boats, whose only mission is to go fast, make random turns, and create giant wakes. They're almost scary with how oblivious they are to what's around them, especially when they fill the ballast and the bow is at a 45 degree angle to the water. We've had a few try to swamp us. We stopped going to the lake in the summer because their numbers seem to have increased exponentially.

Dunno why.
When I worked in a sporting goods store, we used to have the bass guys bring their reels in to replace their 8lb Trilene, seemed like every time they went fishing. Then bitched about the price.

I have a flat really close to my house that i have fished for years. No boats fished it for some reason. People would just drive by. This past year winter there have been more boats on it. No big deal. However, The past month there has been a elderly couple fishing it. I am ok with it other than the fact they anchor right in the middle of the flat and the old bag screams at anyone getting within 50 yards. I need to find a new place i guess.

I have never brought any reel anywhere, ever to have line put on. I just do it myself. Maybe I’ve been doing it wrong all these years.

Had a guy like that on the by me. I personally watched him pull that crap to some kids in a Jon boat. He cut that out after he started collecting cinderblocks and rip rap behind his boat.

To me, you fish for 4 primary reasons:

1. To eat
2. Relax
3. Have Fun
4. It’s your passion

Some of these guys do none of those things. They’re wound up so tight and are so pissy on the water that there is no way they can be having fun. Seems like the jerks only fish for:

1. money
2. Fame (pro fishermen and/or YouTube views)

It’s probably an over generalization but you get the point.

To be fair there are plenty of Salt Life sticker, Mercury pro team hat wearing, Yeti jerseyed douches running in the salt as well.

And I would argue spending $150K on a carbon fiber Yellowfin is just as nutty as a $90K bass rig, when you can catch the same fish on a $50K Mako.

Boy, I guess things have changed. We fished tournaments all the time, on many different lakes and had a great time. Some were local with 20 or so boats to as many as 50-60. It was a little about winning cash but mostly about having fun. We even did a bream “classic “ one time for fun with the top prize awarded for the smallest live bream. Sad to hear it’s all turned south and filled with such hatred.

Also, fishing a tournament doesn’t give you priority to any spot on the water.
Because if they don't hit they most likely won't. Bass will hit anything that goes past their nest. They bed in the water and sit there ready to pounce. No point in casting in the same place over and over.

Right? Outside of catch-and-release, bed fishing should be illegal. Nothing like taking a fish from a nest who is guarding the eggs from predators. Seems pretty counter to that “conservation” idea that they’re always promoting.

Anyone can catch bedding bass . I like catching bass once in a while , smallmouth especially . I don't doubt that Facebook and Instagram have upped the douchebag quotient among the bass boys these days .

The other day, I was fishing from the kayak on a lake. Most of the fish were super deep, so I was drifting a deeper area dragging a lure and casting up at the bank picking off a few shallow fish here and there. I come around a bend and there is a bass boat moving up wind towards me doing the same thing. I don’t know who had the right of way. All I know is that I was drifting with the wind and they had a trolling motor as well as their big motor. These guys start cussing me as I get closer obviously irritated that I already fished the waters that they were wanting to fish. They mouthed off something like “I don’t know why these kayaks need to be on these lakes. Aren’t there smaller lakes nearby that is better suited for you?” Oh yeah, one guy even asked why I wasn’t working that day (it was a Wednesday and I took off work). He said that he was a vet and that he deserved the right of way. WTF?!

I can’t help but notice that there are more and more tournaments and the waters are getting awfully crowded with a**holes. What say you?
thats the funniest thing Ive heard today and I may use that "why arnt you working today"

We had a woman that made the local news for trying to run off someone fishing from her dock. An event was organized to fish her dock, it was hilarious.

Unfortanelty. it's the best strategy while fishing in tourneys at times. I'm aware anyone catch off a bed. It's why we cover as much as fast as possible. I didn't bass fish this year as I mainly off shore fish now.

Way back when I used to fish with a guy who would use popcorn. This was striped bass fishing off the coast in NJ. Would take an entire bag and dump handfuls as he went along then would take off or so a mile up the beach towards a fleet of boats. Would get on the horn and announce "tons of birds off xx location" and would nearly fall off his helm chair laughing watching all the boats race past him.
