Default Advice needed....residential packaged gas electric unit

My Trane gas-pack has ahole in the heat exchanger, repair estimates around $1800...since it is 12 yrs old I'm considering a new unit....was hoping there are some HVAC dealers/techs out there or homeowners who can point me to a goodunit....seems that Trane, Carrier, and Goodman are the most prevalent brands in my area....thanks in advance....

Trane York Carrier Lennox are you top units, which all have about the same warranty, Get 3 estimates for replacement,at 12 yrs old, your unit is at the low end of it's life cycle, replace it with one of the newer - way mor eff units, you won't regret it.

The Carrier is at least a 13 seer and @4555. it is a very fair price for the 030 which is a 2 1/2 ton unit. The individual Carrier dealers set their price, I just pulled up the last Carrier pkg unit I put in , and it was a 13 Seer 3 ton, (replaced existing unit) was a little more than what you got quoted, Call the trane guy back , see if he wants to deal, might come down, if not, put the Carrier in.

do yourself the favor and spend the extra $500 for the Trane unit. Goodman is a midgrade grade unit
