Default uninvited guest

This little guy showed up at my front door this morning. Fiesty creature, instead of retreating when it saw me, it started lunging away trying to get some teeth into my ankle Neat snake, anyone know what it is?

Thanks!!

I looked up corn snake and here is what I got;

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Corn Snake or Red Rat Snake (Elaphe guttata) is a species of Rat Snake. The Latin word elaphe means deerskin.[1] Popular in the pet trade, they are known for being smaller and more docile than other snake species. They are non-venomous, another reason why they are often kept as pets or breeders. Their average adult length is about 4-5 feet fully grown, and they can live up to 20 years. They are found throughout the south-eastern and central United States as well as parts of Mexico. The name 'corn snake' refers to the splotched pattern on its belly, which resembles Indian maize. Some, however, believe it is because they are often found in corn fields where they search for rodent prey.

My wife was freaking out wanted me to kill it I think I'll return it to the wild before she gets home. Would've made a cool pet

Looks as though he is ready to shed his skin too. Check out the eyes.

If he could see alittle better, he'd of left you alone. Their pretty cautious for the most part.
The ones here about, slither off as soon as they think they've been seen.
I chased one that was pretty close to four foot off the road this last summer. It came right back apparently,
I found it in about the same spot later, but it'd stopped growing by that time. Some folks run snakes over regardless
of variety.

My motto is " If it's on land, it ought to have feet" The only good snake is a dead one.
