Get it looked at by a doctor, and consider gout.

If it’s Gout get some pure cherry juice to help get rid of the Uric acid build up. Does it hurt to touch?

I flip real estate. Very hands on. 365/7.

Eat healthy. Grill chicken, pork, beef three times a week. Veggies every meal. Salad too.

Wife is a stage 4 breast cancer survivor so we eat well.

Not tender to touch in any location.

Tito's is definitely helping the situation.

Doesn't look/sound like gout to me.

Dx: Hallux limitus/rigidus.

A steroid shot, stiff soled shoes and possibly surgery is in your future. See a podiatrist.

I have that. But I skied in size 8 Langes with an 11 foot. Every now and then it fires up, so maybe gout. Most of the time it just sits there. Large. Doin' nothing. Waiting to hurt again.

My best suggestion is to go to the largest orthopedic group in your area--looking for an ankle and foot specialist. That specialty is not easy to find, but they're the specialist that deals with such issues. Your hurting toe could be one of many problems that show up with a swollen joint.

My wife's got terrible arthritis in both feet, and calcium deposits and bone spurs are showing up. She can barely walk. Her orthopedic surgeon says she's got the worse feet he's ever seen, and 7 mid foot fusions are going to be done 12/31. She'll be in the hospital 3 days and in rehab 3 weeks. After a long recovery, the other foot's going to have to be done.

Best you quickly address the issue.

Gout is usually very tender and painful, not just a little. Osteoarthritis there is minimally tender but does not come and go. It is permanent bone enlargement where a gout attack will resolve itself in a few days.

Years ago I had something similar.
doing construction on my house and foot swelled up and was hurting.
went to the doc and he sent me to an infectious disease doctor.
I had a bone infection in my foot. He said it was common in construction workers.

I'm just finishing up a gout round right now. Exact same symptoms.

I get it maybe once a year, sometimes it skips a year.

Avoid gout foods and triggers: organ meats (liver), excessive alcohol, red meats, seafood / shellfish. Some fruits and veggies are gout triggers as well.

My gout attacks are like clockwork, same every time. When I first notice it, it'll take exactly 2 days to ramp up and it'll become extremely painful if untreated. Then it stays painful for exactly 2 days. Then 2 more days it goes back to normal. I used to get anti-inflammatory prescription meds from my doc. I forgot the name. They worked very well to nearly eliminate the pain and stop the swelling. But I didn't like the list of possible side effects. So now I manage it with over the counter Ibuprofen 400mg. The recommended dose for healthy adults is 1600mg / day. At peak pain I'm popping 2400mg / day for a period of roughly 36 hours. I figure it can't hurt me that bad. I'm currently rounding up day 5 and I'm taking about 400mg every 12 hours or so.

There are also meds to artificially reduce your uric acid levels but of course I want to avoid all prescription drugs if I can. I'm not on any other prescription meds. BTW, i'm 48, a little over weight but generally fit and active (I ski and swim a lot).

If it's not sore to touch, then I doubt it's Gout, because Gout is extremely bad to even lightly touch, cure for Gout is prescription drugs like Colgout, and possibly Indocid anti inflammatory, that said, it doesn't sound like Gout.

Just had my big toe fused 21 days ago...........arthritis, no cartilage, tons of bone Spurs and I couldn’t walk comfortably for the last 5 plus years. I’m still in a boot, but it it feels better. Looks like a 6 month rehab period followed by physical therapy. Etc.
