I guess it would have been a totally different outcome if the bear struck the landing gear.

Better hope it was in season and not on the endangered list.

Bears in Alaska are not endangered (although the population around Hains seems to be struggling ) and it was the sow that died not the cub.

After reading the article, someone on the ground crew may be getting in some hot water. It says the cleared the runway, but they did it a full 10 minutes before the plane landed. Pilots didn’t see the bear until they were slowing after landing.

Ouch, poor outcome either way, my contact in Alaska said the cub bought it, guess not.

Yakutat is a true frontier town. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often

Killing an animal same day as flying in. Captain might get in trouble with fish and game.

(sarcasm for those who didn’t get it).

Really dude? In your world is there no such thing as an accident? Every single thing that happens must require identifying someone to blame? It’s a crappy situation, but without a doubt this didn’t happen on purpose. Who do you think needs to be “held accountable”?

they need to put up bear crossing signs like they do on the high ways for deer , so the bears know where they should be crossing
