Default Guns, capacity

So seeing some recent threads on here about pistols plus most threads I see on the gun forums I go to I got to thinking. I regularly see people post things like oh you donít want that gun itís capacity is to low. You want gun XYZ it has 17 rounds and magazines that go even higher. So I got to doing some searching and have found that nearly everything pint to a median and mode of 2-2.5 shot fired per self defense shootings. Most all donít even make it close to even the capacity of even a 1911 in .45 caliber. So why is it that I see over and over that having 10 rounds isnít nearly enough?! If weíre putting out that many rounds youíre up s- -ts creek farther than most anyone will make it out of. Maybe too many movies?

just because you may not need it doesnít mean you will not need it. That is why.

A bit of wisdom I got from a hunting partner:

"Never run out of ammunition".

.....I wonder if there are enthusiasts that enjoy shooting at the range as a hobby.

Depends on the situation. For a bedside gun I want large capacity. In that situation size and space to keep it is a non-issue. Also a large frame gun tends to be more accurate and pack more punch due to its longer barrel. If Iím in my boxers facing a home intruder I want a lot of capacity without needing to accommodate a spare mag. For me thatís a beretta 92fs g model.

For an EDC, concealability and ease of carry are big factors. For that I typically carry a single stack 9mm that holds 7+1, and sometimes a j frame .38. Iím more than willing to sacrifice capacity if I gain ability to carry. When thatís not a factor, give me capacity in a capable platform every time.

How many rounds do you think a 1911 holds? Mine will hold 7+1 or 8+1 depending on the magazine.

My Bersa Thunder 40 in 40S&W holds 13+1 which is at the limit of a CCW firearm sizewise.
I did have a Baby Desert Eagle in 45ACP that help 10+1 until some lowlife scum stole it. Yep. Registered in the NCIC in case LEOs ever come across it.
I just picked up an FN FNX45 in 45ACP that holds 15+1. It is not a carry gun but a drive/travel gun.

9MMs are often considered good for carry guns as even a medium sized one can hold 13+1 without being too obtrusive.

It is not how many shots that you fire, rather how many shots hit the target. If you can hit in 1 shot, all you need is a 2 shot derringer, just in case.

Surprising how fast they go when you get in a groove on the range . You get empty quick .

I carry XPS 45 an extra clip in my pocket

Hope like hell I never have to consider using it but IF that time ever comes I will be prepared

At home I have a Nano 9mm with 3 clips in bedroom

My argument for 9mm over .45 statistically it takes more than 2 rounds for either for incapacitation so you may as well carry the gun with the most rounds. Iím a firm believer that you can never have too much ammo or too many mags. Why would you need more than 9-10 rounds? People miss, accuracy goes down significantly under stress and there could be multiple subjects needing incapacitating. I just built up an AR ďpistolĒ for a truck gun. Since itís a pistol it can be stored in the cab cocked locked and ready to rock with the Choice of 20, 30, or 40 round mags.

IDK the cops always seem to need 274 rounds to subdue a perp. I shoot an apple at 25 yards but you can bet your ass I'm going to dump my entire mag on whoever's unfortunate enough to put me in that situation. Obviously if there's more than one the situation changes a bit. FYI my SHTF gun is a custom 2011 with 21 round mags, six on the belt and one in the gun.

I hope you're aware that you have fallen overboard, but I doubt it...!!!

Small guns with lower capacity are so easy to carry you have then on you if shut hits the fan
I guess the question is would you rather have a two shot 357 magnum derringer or nothing
